I went through 82nd (AA) Recondo School in 5-81 I think it was .... I know it was one of the last Division controlled courses before Corp took it over. Damn it was tough. Came out of there having lost twenty pounds and feeling tougher than woodpecker lips.

Robby Griffin and me, Robby was from CSC 2nd Bgde and was the post heavy weight champ. I remember hearing him whimpering getting his ass beat on in POW camp and them threatening to put me in a barrel and roll me into the little river and I was thinking, shit, if Robbie is whimpering wtf are they going to do to me?

But then I thought about what Slocum would do to me if I failed out of that school and I just sucked-it up. Out of a full squad sized element of Marine Force Recon that started that class with us, only one made it through and he was an officer who told us his career would be over if he failed out.

    Just a helluva school.

Welcome Recondo Brothers.....I seen this post that was sent to me on e mail and I just wanted to say that this thread has been active since
8/28/2007 with over 13,790 views, the most views in the LRS SECTION I think, the next one below this is the True Story of the LRRP, LRP RGR, and BDQ in Vietnam. So you have enough stories to fill a book in this one thread/ And if you feel you had a rough time, you'd be amazed at some of the stories,,,,what's different and why this thread lasted this long is due to the motivation, discipline, aggressiveness and dedication they have in themselves and the common respect we all have for each other, we are brothers.

NOBODY is any better than the man on his left or the man on his right,,,,,we all need each other OR understand that we may need each other but it don't mean nothing since we all know what each man has in him!
I have been on here almost 7 years and I am a graduate of the SF MACV RECONDO in 1968 (RN 1114) and I graduated from the XVIII Abn Recondo after I passed my 3 month evaluation as an instructor and worked there from Dec 83 = May 85. I also am an ADMIN on the Face Book page 82ND/XVIII Airborne CORPS Recondo School Page and I have other recon experience AND A LOT of it I learned in this LRS site,, So be proud of what you did and if you have the desire and dedication you will stay in this site and read as mush as you can and share and learn from each other and maybe still have this thread running in 8/28/20 18. Good Luck

COHORT I? You must have recognized the name "Slocum" and assumed it was COHORT I. And while, yes, I was a member of COHORT I as one of the NCOs, I went through AA Recondo School a couple of years before we formed COHORT. Steve Slocum was my Plt Sgt, then 1SG of Alpha long before we formed COHORT - although he did handpick quite a few of us to go to COHORT. Myself, LaFountain, Thornton and some others. Simmons. And then of course Eli Rosner was our CO at Alpha before he was CO of COHORT. Eli's command of Alpha was filled by Chuck Jacoby.

How many times are you going to welcome me troop? I've been here since November of 2011. Should I expect this to continue-on into my seventies or is it strictly confirmation you are trolling for with that post?

Since when did we sky soldiers require personal attention?
