    Default ROTC/Red Berets

I stopped off over at my old college today to see a friend. When I was getting ready to leave I noticed two (male and female) soldiers leaving the student facility wearing ACU's. I didn't really think anything of it till I noticed the guy had walked out with what I thought was a maroon beret on. I thought COOL, somebody from my unit has stopped by. However after the initial "snapshot" I noticed that it wasn't maroon, but RED. It almost looked like a baboons ass in the sunlight. What was unimaginable was that it looked worse then the picture of 50 cent in the movie "Home of the Brave"http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/1391/fiddy113uc.jpg. It looked like he hadn't even bothered to form it or even cared for that matter. It was literally sticking up like a Papa John's chef hat. I never once saw this while I was a student there, when did ROTC start wearing anything other then black berets or PC's? Hell, I've never even see them wear anything other then PC's with their ACU's, BDU's.

Red??? The only people I know that wear red are AF pararescue... but as far as I know, when in ROTC... you don't get to wear your shit... and no para would wear his shit like that...

Why didn't you stop him and ask?

50 cent is a pimp. I always have a natural reaction to check out folks in uniform to see if they're ate up or not. I would definitely have checked this guy out. I HATE when I see people wearing berets like chef hats.

you should've cut off his weiner as an example to the other future officers, and left an AP.org deathcard on him.

The school is only 10 min. from where I live. I'm heading back over there this week. I was heading home and caught them both in passing as I was walking to my car on the other side of campus. I was trying to see a unit patch at first because I was thrown off by the beret. They were a good distance from me and we were heading in opposite directions. I turned around and started along their path but they walked to their car and took off.

I'll find him. Does anybody have any kind words for him as I toss off an AP.org card?

At High School level they are all issued whatever the school uniform is. My sons freshman year they wore "red" berets and the one he was issued had seen better days. It had been shaped poorly, the band was falling apart, and the draw string was gone. I tried to work on it but that beret had seen better days.

As I understand it they dropped the beret this year. However at all of last years drills I saw every fucking color imaginable as a beret from schools all over Eastern NC. What a cluster fuck it was.

A year ago this coming May, I attended a Commencement at a State College in Illinois. The ROTC Students were wearing a little darker shade of red Beret. They didn't have a clue how to wear them. Really looked like shit. I never thought much about it, just presumed it was ROTC SOP.

I see photos of AD troops wearing the black berets that look unformed and poofy (chef hat look) or they look real stretched out and hanging below their ear. I thought there were directives on the proper wear.

Jack, Bro sadly my Brother the only people who seem to care on the proper wearing of Berets are those who've been assigned to REAL UNITS IE: Airborne, Ranger, SF, Pararescue, AF Weather Detachments (an MOS I never knew existed until I met JR across the street couple years ago). I know there are a few guys in Hooah units who don't know how to wear Berets correctly, but they are the exception not the rule; now these Jackholes you ran into Bro I'd say go back to that school in question and confront they're ROTC NAZI ASSES and find out they're deal and if the explanation doesn't fly then well it's time for all of them to do some elevated Push Ups for all of us who've worn the Maroon Beret Past, Present, and Future.

    Square them Away Airborne!!

    BlackFlagg,
It is true that only people who have pride in the Beret wear it properly. I had a leg at Ft Myer try to tell me that me Beret was on wrong when I was inprocessing. I told him I had earned mine almost 4 years prior and had been wearing a real one, Maroon. That shut the leg up.

    dwerwin,
Like I said on other threads on this site and on other Paratrooper Sites my story of when I first got to legland down in Panama from the Repo Detachment a young Private in 87 with my Jumpwings on my Jungle Fatigues and my 193rd Infantry Brigade Patch, one day this leg comes up to me in the Bohia(I believe that's what we called the covered areas where we did weapons maintenance) and says rather smugly, "Flagg you're not Airborne Now are You?" To which I looked him straight in the eye as I tapped the wings on my chest and said rather Proudly, "I'll Always Be Airborne." After I said those words he had nothing to say to that it was like I took the wind out of his sails with what I just said, I just gave him a Smackdown so to speak or a "Push" in Blackjack terms totally brushing this legs lame attempt at something away.

It's just amazes me this hater attitude that the leg community has toward the Airborne Community, heck I have this Retired Vet friend whose a leg who tells me that when he went through basic all his drills were against Airborne back then; yeah he's a Vietnam Vet but still come on shit when I went through in 87' it still existed and probably still does today. That is why I think the Army I think went to the Black Beret back in 02'; one so everyone can look "Same Basically" thus there'll be no Specialty or Different types.... That's Right Folks in Today's PC World we all can't be different from each other no one can be special or apart from one another we all have to Fight Fair, Well Fuck That, Does the islamfascist fight fair I don't think so...of course not behead the motherfucker shove a hotdog in they're mouthes and point them West Face Down.

The Only Way to Fight those Fuckers is to Fight them even more sicker then they are...I still need my coffee.

yea Coffee..boo nasty stinky (did I say nasty?) legs...had a LTC once here in DC at the actual dedication or whatever you call it of the black beret when it became official head gear..anyway this major came out..not only did he have it looking like the local pizza dude..but damn if he didn't have it completley reversed. Flash on right eye etc....after I did a double take..couldn't believe my eyes...then had a good laugh I went and corrected him..polite like and all but boy I couldn't help but laugh the rest of the day..the sad thing is he passed many NCOS..er sargn'ts and they said nothing...I mean this dude was headed to the main stage looking like shiiiatt...but he was squared away before stepping on the stage...
