Default Dish Network vs. Direct TV

I hate Cable. I think it is way to fucking expensive for that bullshit.

I currently have dish and love it. No problems unless it snows real hard. Then I have to take a broom and go out and brush off the dich. Other than that no complaints.

My neighbors have dish and are thinking about going to Direct TV.

DO any of you have either and what are your thoughts on it?

Jim, I have Directv HD DVDR : I have been a customer since 1998 when Time Warner and ABC/Disney had the week long tiff and TWC cut off the ABC feed in North Carolina. I like the service, the customer service has been top notch. I started with a plain jane receiver and when DVR's came out I upgraded love Tivo and then DTV & Tivo parted ways and they gave us one of their own DVRs and the remote was horrible.....Service was great, the Remote sucked ass.

I have the new HD DVR 200 hour model the remote is so much better than the old Standard Definition DVR that I just upgraded from. In the 3rd QTR this year DTV will have 2 more satellites in service and provide almost 75-100 more HD channels.

    Anything else , just ask.

I have DirecTV too and have no complaints. I tried to get one of Comcast's package deals - including their "digital" service - (I use them for Internet access), but the signal quality sucked (my fuckin' rabbit ears got better). I then found out that the only channels that were "digital" were the higher end ones! I told them to get it out and was thanking my lucky stars that I never canceled my DirecTV!

And as soon as Verizon get their shit together and gets fiber in my area, I'll be switching my Internet access off of cable too!

To sum it up - Cable is a rip off.

If we actually had a choice about our cable provider it would be different, kind of like the Local Number Portability thing that the phone companies had to do, it would really give you a choice, but thanks to the archaic FCC regulations they cannot.....

Cable itself is okay but that stinking comcast and their service is not okay. I switched to Direct TV some two years back and it's cool except for heavy snows and I get to take it camping with me because I have an extra antenna. I just bring the box and aim the antenna and I watch sports in the woods.

I also have satellite internet and have few complaints with that. It does drop out in heavy rain and it is somewhat slower than cable but not having to deal with comcast makes up for a lot. Plus, my cable was always going out and on top of that they constantly kicked me off line and I had to reset my router and modem.

We had DISH for the last 2 years, up until Nov. and when our contract was up we started getting all the come on's from DIRECT TV and the deal was pretty good. So we called and and asked if they (DISH) could match them and they couldn't, only because we were already a customer. That pissed us off so we switched to DIRECT TV. The wife and I are glad we switched, as we got more for our buck and the reception seems better and the little we've used it the customer service is better. As far as the technical aspect of it, I can't say, I'm a turn it on, turn it off kind of guy.

A side note here. We were told by both DIRECT & DISH that some people switch back and forth when there contracts are up and get the deals from both DIRECT & DISH.

I am locked in on Cable right now, Medicom which is our Cable provider sucks big time, and is expensive. Direct TV is just coming to our area, but no Internet Service yet, so it may be a few more months before I check into Direct TV, but am definitely going to do it. I am damn sick and tired of lousy cable service and high prices.

I was a Dish Network customer for 4 years. A good product, at the time it was reasonably priced, the price has since jumped. If you have customer service issues with Dish Network your call is shipped off to non english speaking countries on the other side of the globe, and no shit, I have screamed at them, and just plain lost my cool trying to get things done. I was not afforded a citizen of the USA until I cancelled my service.

I have been with Direct TV since January. I love them. Customer service is great, if there is a problem it is addressed immediately, and your bill is usually given a credit. Better reception that Dish Network. I never lost my reception once during a blizzard, where Dish Network was real sensitive to that. No severe rain yet to compare to so no idea there.

Thanx for the feedback. Looks like I need to get more info on Dierst TV. I have been out of my contract with Dish for a couple years now. My neighbor says he is going to be spending the same amount of money each month and has an additional 35 + channels. Which includ ethe Military Channel and the INternational History Channel. Both I do not have now and want. Again, thanx for the feedback.

I've got cable, total ripoff...but without it you can't get the local channels.
With any luck I'll switch to satellite, only because that's what's installed at the house I'm (hopefully) about to move into. Once I quit dickin around and commit to actually buying a house I'll go the Direct TV route without question.
