Ipod/MP3 WTF???

Alright I am looking at investing in one of these new fangled little do-dads.

All I want for it to do is to be able to play cadenences while I run and some musical hell, death and destruction while I am working over Sponge Bob's mom.

I don't need the texting, video and whatever else they are offering. I see these damn things run between $40 and $300. What would be best to fit my needs?

BTW how the hell do you get songs placed on the little fuckers?

I have a Creative MuVo that I got at wal-mart for $50 that I like. Really simple, is good on batteries and all you need to do to fill it with music is plug it directly into a USP port on your comp and drag/drop the music files you want into the players folder.

I have a 30 GB Ipod, I like it and here's why.

1. you can get an 80 gig more storage is better
2. MPEG-4 Video
3. I have 1150 songs
4. 20 full length movies on it converted from DVD video to MPEG-4

Itunes you can purchase your music without using a credit card online...The Itunes cards are extremely handy again....NOW credit card stored online.

But its really up to you and what you feel comfortable spending on a toy.

I have the same thing (but in red - looks like it goes faster). Anyways, the problem with IPod is it has DRM (Digital Rights Management) - ie: in other words "Big Brother".

With a 1Gig stick, I have about 220 hours with of listening. I can copy songs back and forth all day and will never have an issue with any DRM. You can't do that with an IPod.

My advice - Get an MP3 player.

Kinda funny I rip my own DVD's and even some video from alternate sources and I can copy it back and forth from my Pod to my wife's pod with no problems

As long as you rip your own. If you start downloading from the service that they offer, that's when you're screwed. Also, if you are using Windows Media Player to rip your music and video, there is a chance that Microsoft is still collecting that information (or at least could). And don't forget that their new OS, Vista, is loaded down with all kinds of DRM.

Right now the only thing protecting end users from the Big Brother (aka: RIAA), is the "Fair Use Act", that allows us to make a copy to protect the original (or at least a backup of it). But I also know that the RIAA is trying to have the Fair Use Act outlawed. Just do a Google search on "RIAA and lawsuits".

you stated that you were going to use it for running. I would suggest that you get the nano, they have a very slick nike running shoe set up that you have a sensor in the shoe and it feeds to the nano and gives you data on your run , distance, pace etc.

I agree with Yrualeg... the nano system is nice, especially if you're using it for running only...
