    Default 250' Tower

I never got to jump the 250' tower in jump school and from talking to many others, it appears that it was not uncommon to skip it due to maintenance, etc. So, did you jump it in BAC? (See poll)

It seemed common back in my time to put it off due to wind or maintenance.

I got to be dropped from it. The bitch was when I landed with my feet MORE THAN shoulder width apart.

I fucked up my damn heel and for a day or two and didn't think I would make it. Hurt like a bitch. Good thing for me that the runs were soooo damn slow. They were soooo fucking slow that it gave me time to heal.

Yup I did, two times. Had the "class" on what to do if you got blown into the tower and everything. Most of the day they only had 3 of the 4 drops running because of wind. But in the afternoon they got all 4 running. The would only drop one jumper at a time. While I was hanging up there it was pretty cool to be looking around all over the place, but you had to make sure you were listening to the Blackhats too. If they yelled (bullhorn) up at you and you didn't respond right away you'd catch hell once you were down.

They would pull you up (once the canopy was hooked to the ring), as you ascend you are at Parade Rest, and stop you about ten feet from the top. After the Black Hats yell up at you for a few minutes they'll ask if you're ready, and they only expect one answer.

Once you communicate that you are G2G, they raise you the last few feet and the jolt would release you and you are to start slipping away from the Tower. After doing a PLF (about the only one I ever did hitting all five points!), you get up and they tell you how you did. Most/all times you can always do better.

But short of exiting from a plane, it is just like jumping.

I got one off of the tower. I went during August, and there was little to no wind. Although somewhat nerve-racking, it was a great ride. I did a feet-knees "PLF", but the ground was soft as it was frequently plowed.

They hauled my skinny ass to the top of the Mighty UNGOWA. At the beginning I didn't think that 250' was that high...well at the Top I could see the river and thought "shit this is pretty high!!" Great ride though......

    Yeah; I jumped them.

In my Class, as well as preceding class, there was at least one student who wound up in a Tower. In fact; no sooner did one stranded student get plucked down than another got stuck in the girders. It made for a couple of good pictures for me. I had my wings and when the second student got stuck I got out my camera and I started snapping away with a telephoto lens. Then I lost my bag with the photos when I got off the plane at Aviano. Pity. They would have made fantastic pics to scare away unwanted Cherry’s.

No tower jumps for me in January of 98'. They said they were broken. It seems that the majority of troopers never got to jump them...at least the ones I have talked too.

I would have liked to have jumped them however.

Ironic -Mike the towers were fun. Hell I liked it. It was the only time I did a perfect PLF. The spiderman imitations were funny as hell. Except for the poor dumbfucks who got hung up.
