I posted this on another board running the same thread about the 250' towers.

We had high winds that day. The trip up was a hoot. Looking down with nothing under yer feet sure made the pucker factor high. When they yanked me up to bump me loose I think my heart and stomach stayed up there for a few seconds. I had about 4 Blackhats yelling different instructions. Slip right, slip left, face the wind, turn turn turn!!!! I finally ignored em and turned into the wind. I hit the ground going backwards at about 20 mph. Good PLF but I rolled about 3 times. The chute kept the wind and drug me about 20 feet before some guys jumped on it and deflated it. They'd told us don't pop a riser loose. They were afraid that bullet would hit someone on the ground. I had about 10 pounds of dirt down my shirt from being drug across that plowed ground. One jump is all we got because of the high winds that day. Some of those guys had bloody noses and ate dirt. No one got seriously injured but I gotta admit, jumping out of a plane was a lot easier than that tower.

Don't get started on Carter. Let's stick to the towers. It was embarassing while Carter was there. Nuff said.

I enlisted under Ford, and swore my oath going onto active duty 12 days after Jimmuh took over. By then I had already swore off Peanuts for the next four years. Went to Basic and Infantry AIT with a Black kid named Jimmy Carter. And he was from Georgia. He caught hell. Said he had been eating shit about this for years.

I once knew a Private Love.

I wonder what he went through in Basic and AIT.

Did the tower in 1966. There was a kid in our class that was killed on it. He did a bad landing and died of a brain hemmorage about 3 hours later.

It would be a blast to go out in the desert of the southwest, and build a new state of the art tower......say maybe 1000'!

You could sell rides, and it would be a lot cheaper than using planes like
    they do in Eloy!

I would do it in a heartbeat!
