Default Possible poser, what do you guys think?

I recently met a dude at a bar who claimed to be "wounded" in A-stan from RPG attack. He was wounded in his lower right leg. I asked if I could check out his wound, he replied, "the scars are pretty much healed over already". He was wounded last spring. He claimed he was a part of C co. 2-187th INF of the 10th Mountain Division and an 11C. I asked him what BN he was at Benning and he was in a BCT unit and not an OSUT unit. This didnt sound right to me. So, we got more into the conversation about his tour and was telling me some odd stories that didn't sound right at all. I served in Iraq as an Infantryman, never been to A-stan. The way he explained how his infantry unit operated sounded so far different than how some Infantry units operated in Iraq. Then he is also said he is "retired" from the Army and this dude is only 25 and put 2 years in??? My poser radar was going. He claimed he is going to the VA to have his "combat patch" presented to him, like it was going to be a ceremony. My question is, is his affiliation with the 10th Mountain sound right? How can he "retire" from the Army from a wound that seemed never happened. I already thru the BS flag at the whole combat patch thing and I remember when I was at Benning 11C's were in OSUT with us and not in BCT. Anyone have any comments or thoughts on this case?

I've never heard of a ceremony to award a combat patch.
If he was retired from the military after 2 years it would have to be medically, presumably from the wounds he sustained. I would have to think that wounds bad enough to cause medical retirement would not be the type to which the scars would be that far healed. I'm smelling a bit of here.

    The 2-187 is a 101 unit, not 10th MTN.

BTW, 187 INF is a part of the 101st. Did you perhaps mean 1-87 INF or 2-87 INF? They are in the 10th Mtn.

They do unofficial Combat Patch awards ceremonies in country. They roll it up into a SS,BSM PH Award presentation.

VA doesn't do that kind of shit.

Ask him what brigade he was in at 10th MTN.

Roger that, I met this guy after a female acquaintance met him. He bragged to her that he is retired from the Army. I just asked her to check a text message he had sent her that explained his unit affiliation for me. He was in 2-87th. He invited me to come drink with him at the bar tomorrow. My investigation shall resume.

Is the 10th Mountain OCONUS or were they recently? I have a feeling this guy is posing thru some of the stories. But waht astonishes me is that he claims to be 11C and not some high speed , gung ho, SF , superman like most posers claim.

I have found some poser will go with what they know. A brother or a friend or something was this and that and from the stories he was told he made them his own. Never know.

In August 2003 the battalion deployed with 700 soldiers as a task force to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom IV, for a 9 month rotation. Task Force 2-87 was part of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, working as the northern combat task force. In Afghanistan, the Catamounts took part in combat operations to defeat anti-coalition forces operating in Asadabad, Barikowt, Khowst, Nangalam, and Ghazni provinces.

After their return from Afghanistan, 2-87 was swept up in the army's transformation initiative, where it added a weapons company, received in direct support a forward support company, and was assigned to the newly activated 3rd BCT (Spartans) of the 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, NY. The battalion has proven its ability to deploy, fight and win anywhere in the world as part of the 10th Mountain Division (LI), and the XVIII Airborne Corps.

Here is the homepage of 2-87 INF.
    http://www.drum.army.mil/sites/tenan...7INF/Links.htm
It was last updated on 1 September 2005 and only references the deployment to Afghanistan in '04.

Hell, I got hit in the legs over 38 years ago in Vietnam and my shins still look like shit! This guy has to be a poser. Scars DON"T heal over. I'm still picking little pieces of metal out of my legs 38 years later as the stuff works out.

Default BS meter confidence is High!

I took a round to the right knee in 2002, had a very successful series of surgical interventions, outstanding rehabilition therapy and the scar on my leg is still quite visible and obvious. I would have to call for a DD214 check on this one!
