This story touched me quite deep.

It brought me back to 26 May, 2006 when I got an email from my father with a link to a story saying, "Plymouth Soldier Killed." My heart just about stopped as I knew a few friends from high school who had enlisted. Turned out it was the brother of a good friend of mine who had looked after me like an older brother throughout High School.

Then it brought me back to March, 2008 when I got an email from a family member notifying us that another member, Cpl. Scott A. McIntosh of the 3rd Infantry Division had been killed over in Iraq on 10 March, 2008. I can truly say that I feel for those who have lost a family member or loved one to combat.

I just hope and pray that my own mother or my sister in-law never have to hear that knock, nor any other member of my family.....

"A veteran is someone who, at one point in his or her life wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'"

(DISCLAIMER: ribbons and patch in my avatar are NOT mine, but those of my grandfather)
