When I was in Germany me and a buddy went to Frankfurt for a night on the town. Well on the 30-minute train ride back to Aschaffenburg, we both passed-out drunk as hell and when we woke a few hours later the sun was coming up and we were WAY down in southern Germany and a hell of a long way from where we were supposed to be! Worse, we were broke as hell (we had enough money to buy a single coke between us) and had no way to buy a train ticket back to A-burg. Spent the whole damn day hitchhicking across almost half of Germany. Luckily it was on a Sunday and not a duty day :D

Dumbest thing,

We were OPFOR against an Air Assault at Bragg in the MOUT city. We started taking and my swuad leader told me to throw a smoke grenade to break contact. I grabbed the wrong one and threw RED. The choppers orbited until they were cleared back in.
(Red smoke is real world emergency). I got a nice as chewing for that one.

1) PFC Stupid. a)Deciding to go to Tijuana my final night at MEPS before shipping to Benning... b) Deciding that I wasn't gonna wear my uniform during pass at OSUT, buying some civies at K-Mart and ending up running away in the mall when one of my Drills spots us. Later doing drown proofing at the LaQuinta Inn from the 2d floor into the pool.

2) Specialist Stupid. Drunken bar fight at Mom's in TDC before heading to the field for 2 weeks. MPs take a statement from me while I'm drunk as shit, and I get an ART 15 the moment we get back from the field. (Oh and the 15 stitches in the back of my head from a whiskey bottle)

2) Corporal Stupid. Left a set of NODs in an assault position at Fort Carson and driving back through an Impact Area (during a live fire) to get them.

3) SGT Stupid. Packing my running shoes in my civie back before heading out to Mackall for SFAS after walking back from Rick's because I drank my cab money...

4) Cadet Stupid. Running around Southern California (during Fire Season), and I decided that the horseshit ROTC "training" needed some more realism, so I initiated my night ambush with a REAL white star cluster and promptly set the damn hillside on fire (at Cal State San Bernardino).

(While I admit I got my ass reamed by my LTC, it was wholly worth it for hearing my FEMALE MI Captain OC get the reaming of her lifetime. I "DID" brief the star cluster in the OPORD....)

5) LT Stupid. Now I didn't think it was dumb, but apparently, LT's DO NOT DRIVE. My Platoon was short, so all I had was a driver for my Command HMMWV, and I was damned if I was going to let a weapon go unserved, so I had my driver up on the .50 cal while went rolling 50 mph hour down a firebreak at Camp Mackall RIGHT PAST MY CO. So he asks me what the fuck I think I'm doing, Lieutenants don't have driver's licenses. So smart ass me, promptly pulls out his license annotated for everything from a HMMWV to an M88. After he chews my ass for like 30 minutes, I give him a "Roger Sir" and head out.

So I promptly shove two mikes in either side of my K-Pot, throw my map on the roof with some 100mph tape, and head out after checking the headspace and timing.

Anyhow, not 30 minutes after my first ass chewing, My CO rolls up on me merrily gunning away at the OPFOR, and ignoring him on the radio. (I mean fuck, how many ways can I tell him that we're in fucking contact? Jeezuz, get off my net and let me fight my platoon)

So anyway, needless to say, I end up locked up in the middle of a Major Field Exercise getting my ass reamed again.

So I try to explain that yes, I was a dirty nasty mech leg when I was enlisted, and that you fight an ITV from the turret, so why not a HMMWV? I get told to fucking sit the TC seat, period.

(Now I still think I was right, but I suppose I coulda done a better job of listening, but I think Group kinda reduced my tolerance for stupidity to about zero.)

This is really going to sound stupid, but the dumbest thing I ever did was where my OG-107 pants inside out all day, funny thing is that no body said anything to me until last formation when the Smoke called me out into the front of the formation and made an example out of me, Attention to detail was the moral of the story.
