I've said before but back in '59 when our unit Chaplain -who happened to be Catholic- Had this St. Michael Society for all Airborne memebers and he had a Holy Card of St.Michael with jump boots on. You talk about a picture that said "ALL THE WAY'

As I look through this thread, there seem to be several ideas about what is St. Michael's Prayer. While the sentiment may be close across them, the wording is quite different. Does anyone have an idea or reference to the source of the prayer, and maybe its history?

We in South Africa celebrate two Airborne Holidays. San Michel Day 29 Sept. We call it San Michel in the French manner because our OC at the time brought back the tradition from France where he was seconded to the French special forces for a while. He also attended a staff course at Benning as a two pip lieutenantand because our pips are stars, he enjoyed general status for some days until they discovered his real rank. The other holiday is Cassinga Day (4 May), which is out biggest feast. It commemorates a paratroop attack, by 367 paratroopers on an enemy fortified base containing more than 6000 enemy about 250 km behind the lines. We , despite being dropped in the wrong place and losing the element of surprise took the base with the loss of 4 paratroopers KIA. The enemy lost around 2000 and we wiped out a column of 20 Cuban tanks and APCs using RPGs and some mines we had brought with us. We had some help from the air-force in this.
This great victory set the enemy back and ensured that a negotiated peace came to Namibia instead of a Communist dictatorship
    .

Haven't seen this one posted for a while.

    AIRBORNE TOAST

I have ridden the skies in great machines,
hooked up and jumped with the best of men.
I have fought long and hard, and when I felt I had no energy left,
I have been fired by the fear that I stopped fighting, my comrades would die.

And when I was in danger, enemy all around,
I heard the thunder from my left and my right, as my life was defended.
    I have never been alone.

I live, jump, fight and battle to victory with the greatest assemblage of men on earth.

Gentlemen, to the BROTHERHOOD of the AIRBORNE.

    To the AIRBORNE !

I like them prayers because of the way they unite . I read one in jump school on a wall but cant remember it. It says "The world is my dropzone the sky is my exit". Thats all I remember. Anyone know which one I'm talking about? Now go ahead and give me shit if I should know it, but in my defense "I was in a hurry".

If anyone wants a St.Michael prayer card furnish your name /address. They're free. Semi replica of St Michael card I remember from the 50's.
" Get out of that door you Goddamn piece of shit" and than I felt the kick of the boot on my skinny ass and the small of my back- it broke my grasp of the tower door and out I went screaming like a little girl

Got the medal and the card. Lost my original on a jump somewhere. It just wasn't there anymore.
