    Here are the lyrics:

GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE!

"Is everybody happy!" cried the sergeant looking up, Our HERO meekly answered, "Yes" and then they stood him up. He leaped right out into the blast, his static line unhooked,
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE!

GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE!

He counted loud he counted long he waited for the shock. He felt the wind he felt the cold, he felt that awful drop. The silk from his reserve fell out and wrapped about his legs,
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE!

The risers wrapped around his neck, connectors cracked his dome, suspension lines were tied in knots around his skinny bones. His canopy became a shroud as he hurtled to the ground,
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE!

GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE!

The days he lived and loved and laughed kept running through his mind, He thought about the girl back home, the one he'd left behind. He thought about the Medics and he wondered what they'd find,
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE!

The ambulance was on the spot and jeeps were running wild, The Medics jumped and screamed with glee, rolled up their sleeves and smiled. For it had been a week or so since last a chute had failed,
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE!

He hit the ground the sound of "SPLAT!" The blood went spurting high, His comrades were heard to say: "What a helluva way to die!" He lay there rolling around in all the welter of his gore,
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE!

GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE!

There was blood upon the risers, there was brains upon his chute, Intestines were a-danglin' from his Paratrooper's suite. They poured him from his helmet and poured him from his boots,
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE!!!

Beautiful streamer please open for me, blue skies above me and no canopy.
I counted 10 thousand, waited too long, reached for my ripcord the handle was gone.

GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
GOREY GLORY, WHAT A HELLUVA WAY TO DIE!
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE!

    But what about

HE WAS JUST A ROOKIE TROOPER AND HE SURELY SHOOK WITH PRIDE
HE CHECKED ALL HIS EQUIPMENT AND MADE SURE HIS PACK WAS TIED
HE HAD TO SIT AND LISTEN TO THOSE AWFUL ENGINES ROAR
AND HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE

That's the first verse (as well as I remember it). It was (shit) 29 years ago when I first heard it, of course...

Keerect. That is the first verse. Here is another old Abn Song

    Beautiful streamer, open for me,
    Blue skies above me and no canopy;
Counted nine thousands, counted too long,
Reached for the rip cord, the damn thing was gone.

Beautiful streamer, why must it be?
White silk above me is what I should see,
    Just like my mother that looks over me;
To hell with the rip cord, 'twas not made for me.

    Beautiful streamer, follow me down,
    Time is elapsing and here comes the ground;
Six hundred feet and then I can tell,
If I'll go to heaven or end up in hell.

Beautiful streamer, this is the end,
    Gabriel is blowing, my body won't mend;
All you jump happy son's of a gun,
Take this last warning as jumping's no fun.

Those songs are included on that LP I asked in another thread for.
It was dedicated to the US Paratroopers and begins with the Jumpmasters Commands given at an actual parachute jump.
Maybe one of you fellas has the LP and is able to send me a copy or whatelse.
Hear some German Paratrooper Songs while clicking here

    most important song is

Rot scheint die Sonne the song of the German Paratroopers

if you`re clicking on "Filme", you`ll find some awesome movies.
    Special the Großer Zapfenstreich.
It`s a very special Ceremonie and only performed to say Good Bye to Generals or Politicians as for example the Chancelor.

    Enjoy it

That IS the first verse. Only I recall it being "Fright" instead of "Pride" and "Tight" instead of "Tied".

    Semantics however.

You could be entirely correct, of course. I only fuck up when I am alone or with someone...

Holy Shit!!!!!! I have heard this song a few times but have never read the words. It sounds exactly how I described my worst jump ever in one of the other threads, with the exception of the dying and my brains being splattered. Holy Shit!!!!!!!!

Sweet! Re: Blood on the Risers

Here is one of my favorite

    Chorus: (Sung after each verse)

We are, we are, we are, we are, the Combat ENGINEER'S
we can, we can, we can, we can, demolish forty beers
Drink up, drink up, drink up, drink up and come along with us
For we don’t give a damn, for any Old Man, who don’t give a damn for us - Hey

    Verses:

Now Venus is a statue made entirely out of stone,
She hasn't a fig leaf on her – she is naked to the bone.
On seeing that her arms we gone, two ENGINEERS discoursed,
Of course the darn thing's broken and should be reinforced!

An ENGINEER and a tanker once found a gallon can
Said the tanker to the ENGINEER "Out drink me if you can!"
The tanker took three drinks and died, his face was turning green.
But the ENGINEER kept drinking, it was only gasoline.

Godiva was a lady who through Coventry did ride,
Showing all the villagers her lovely, lily hide
The most observant fellow was an ENGINEER of course,
Was the only one to notice that Godiva rode a horse!

I've come a long, long way she said and I'll go as long and far
with the man who'll help me off my horse and lead me to a bar
The men who helped her off her horse and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed surveyor and a drunken ENGINEER!

My father was a miner on the upper Malamute,
My mother was a hostess in a house of ill repute.
When I was only sixteen years, she shouted loud and clear
Get out of the house, become a man, and join the ENGINEERS!

Julius Caesar went to Egypt at the age of 53
Cleopatra’s blood was warm, her heart was young and free
But every night when Julie left her house at 3 o’clock
There was a Roman Engineer awaiting just around the block

Sir Francis Drake and all his men put out for Misery Bay
They heard the Spanish Rum Fleet was heading out that way
But the Engineers had beat them by a night and half a day
And though as drunk as hooligans you still could hear them say

The Air Force and the Navy came to town to have some fun
Down to the taverns where the fiery liquors run
But all they found was broken glass, the Engineers had come
And traded junk filled demo bags for gallon kegs of rum

We lay down all their rolling roads and cut down all their trees
And if the order ever comes, we’d forge the raging seas
When ever they want to sleep awhile, we put them up a town
And we build the blasted bridges so the Infantry won’t drown

We put them over rivers and across the mountain streams
Do everything but tuck them in and wish them pleasant dreams
And when the going’s really tough, and shells do burst our ears
The whole Division’s apt to say, GOD, SEND THE ENGINEERS

We build and blow your bridges and fix your roads up too,
There aren't too many things in life an ENGINEER can't do.
You never seem to need us 'til your minds are filled with fear,
Then the first thing that you call for are the Combat ENGINEERS.

We plan and guard your barriers, and we build your bunkers too,
And each and every war we prove what the ENGINEERS can do.
For in the thick of every fight, the cry has been for years
Come clear the pass, and save our ass, you Combat ENGINEERS.

Thumbs up Re: Blood on the Risers

Here's one of he best compilations of military songs I've run across. It was created by the USMA class of 1981.

Following are several hot links from the site:

On the left side you'll find a link for Songs which opens up to all the West Point Songs.

    http://www.west-point.org/users/usma...405/index.html

Here's an Airborne Salute album , one of the best IMHO, with 8 popular Airborne songs.
