That was Chief Joseph of the Nez Pierce who led the LONGEST Retrograde Movement ( Longer than Mao's "LONG MARCH") in Military History. He finally gave up a few miles from the Canadian border because his people were starving and he wasn't about to kill them all to prove a point. Sir, I hate to contradict you but Joseph's march covered about 1,700 miles from Oregaon, through Washington, Idaho to Montana. The Long March is estimated to have covered between 3700-4000+ miles, depending on whose account you trust.
