I have a random thought of the day that I would like to share. This morning I get a call from an old class mate of mine to remind me that we as members of Auberry VFW post #2587 are to be are the opening little league and tee ball ceremonies at our local high school up here in the foothills. They have all of the kids teams called out by team name and line up along the infield. The honor guard is from the Fresno VFW post and comes out. While this is going on, we vets are in the dugout, waiting to be called out. An older man is next to me and I ask him what branch was he in. he replies that he was a pilot in the navy in Vietnam and states what years he was there. A buddy of mine tells him that we lost a classmate in Nam that was a navy pilot and was shot down in 68’ and his body was returned about ten years ago. We get called out to the field by name and branch and I find out the older man next to me is named Richard Myers and is a retired Rear Admiral who shot down a Mig 21 in 68’ and was later the captain of the JFK aircraft carrier.

It’s not every day you get to meet a person like him, when he was talking to me and a couple friends about the Russian pilots he encountered I thought he may have been full of it. I get home and Google his name and find out ------nope!
