I've read Helmet For my Pillow by Robert Leckie several years ago. It was a pretty good read. I'm going to wonder if they're going to keep the Brig Rat chapter in the mini-series...

I like it so far. They should have aired episode 1&2 back to back. I felt a little cheated at the end.

Some of the future episodes look pretty cool. Last night didn't do too much for me with the exception of the cinematography. Good shots of the ships. Too bad Tom Hanks is going to PC the fuck out of this series so as not to make the japs look as bad as they were. Notice how they barely touched on the tortured troops (tied to trees and some decapitated) in the opening scenes on Guadacanal....... Regardless, I still can't wait for Iwo!

The best book I ever read about this theater was James Jones', Thin Red Line. They made a hash of the movie unfortunately.
