Wildflicken was no bed of roses either. The fog was so thick you had to swim to get around.

That hill with the hundreds of crosses for the people that died in accidents on it was creepy as fuck, as well.

The only thing nice was the 3' tall bluebonnets for a Texas boy to look at.

Oh, boy the fog. There was this time my platoon was at a rifle range and we just could not shoot because the fog had covered every target. We had to wait in a miserable drizzle until it moved away.

The cantonment area was nice. I was often reminded of some streets of PA where I grew up. Go into a store on the first floor and exit the rear on the second floor.

But leave the cantonment area and the weather will change by the time you get to the area where your tents are set up. I keep repeating the story about in the space of 2 hours the weather changed 5 times: rain, snow, fog, rain and sunny. Bring your cold weather gear even in the Summer time; you'll need it. The best thing about Wildchicken was the monastery if you liked beer. Personally I found their brew somewhat watery. But that's another story.
