    Default Free college for Texans

For you Texans out there that may not know, the state will pay for your college. The program is called the Hazlewood Act and if your home of record as reflected on your DD214 is Texas, you will get your tuition and most of your fees paid for. Here is a link to see the qualifications:

If you have any questions, ask me - my HH6 and a good friend both work this program for my University.

By the way, there is no double dipping. The Hazlewood Act is after you've exhausted your GI Bill, etc. In other words, you could use your GI Bill to pay for your Bachelor's degree, and the Hazlewood funds to pay for your graduate degree.

Are you still doing undergrad? It will pay for my grad degree and either law school or Ph.D. or maybe both.... what are you going to do for grad school and where? Grad school is a biaaach.... not too terribly hard, but when you are doing both work and school full-time... hard to juggle, too many things to handle, I definitely recommend cutting one back to part-time... just my $.02

I have my associates this semester (WOOHOO!!!) from Houston Community College. I am continuing my on-line studies elsewhere to finish my undergrad (Business Admin emphasis on Accounting). I will have a few thousand in loans (less than 10k) but my GI Bill will kick in once I am commissioned. That should exhaust it.

Then I will do my Masters and get my CPA certification somewhere. Probably through UH Downtown's online program (Yuck...I HATE THEM!). I'm hoping by the time I'm ready for my Masters other State funded schools will have more of an on-line graduate degree program.

I have to do on-line b/c I do full time school (usually 12-15 hours), work full time and have my kiddo (5 years old) and all her activities. I usually find time to do school work here and there during the day, after she goes to bed and during whatever the activity of the day is (swimming, karate, and gymnastics).

Illinois also pays for college at any state school, and you can use this benefit while still collecting your G.I. Bill money.
