Would this be a conundrum or a dilemma ?...................................![]()
Not saying the stuff you have done "doesn't count", nor do you need to leave. Just pointing out that you happened to use a term that, for us, is only reserved for people who have met a certain criteria. It's the same reason I can't walk up to a full-patch Mongol or Hell's Angel and call him "brother". I just don't meet his criteria for use of the term.
I wasn't dogging you, nor do I think anyone was offended. Just answered your question. If you're lucky, and you work hard, someday you'll be able to call us your "brothers" for real.

Get DD Form 293(October 2011)...fill it out and provide as much accompanying documemtation as possible. Include a letter, stating in your own words what happened and mention your service as a police officer and the fact you seek to serve again in military. You can mention the Army Reserve...but maybe hint..you'd like to serve in the Navy Reserve and that might seal the deal in your favor. GOOD LUCK!

OLD GRUNT: Form is in. Awaiting reply.
OPS NCO: Fair enough. Hopefully I can you all brother some day and it have a deeper meaning than just a social term.
Do you have any domestic violence issues in your past Mike? If you do forget it.

Camden PD...rough area Mike. You definitely earned your stripes there and with the Task Force my friend. I hope the Navy does the right thing and gives you the upgrade on the RE code. I'm doing the same thing right now with BIG Army over a bad code from the Nat'l Guard(and I have numerous Honorables with RE-1's from the RA and Reserve Components)...so don't think you're the only one in the same boat!

I tell you bro sometimes it feels like Im sinking slowly and the system that I did so much for dont give 2 shits. Im actually looking into the French Foreign Legion as a last option. I have a buddy who did 5 years there and now he works for Triple Canopy doing defense contracting. He said there is a ton of ex-Legionairres working in the Defense Contracting industry. If things dont turn around for me after the new year I may being catching a plane to France.
Start your FFL packet early, they have a ten-week "cool off" period before they process your paperwork.

Definitely need to take a deep breath and count to ten before you join the Legion, friend. Not saying don't do it, just saying count the cost and know what you're getting in to (though I really don't think anyone ever knows what they're getting into when they sign up for those crazy outfits with the neat hats and shiny badges until they're there). Best wishes in whatever you do.

Don't ever forget that fact. The police officers you served with care. Your friends and family care. The system does not care. The bureaucrats have their checklists and the boxes get ticked off or they don't. Your goals, your accomplishments, your desire to serve, none of it enters into the equation. Accept that and it is easier to negotiate the obstacles in front of you. You no longer feel like your worth is being judged, just your checklist. Welcome to the site and good luck.

Listen I understand the shithole and the fuckin worthless mayor. She is cutting cops and nozzle nuts but her staff has increased. She is smoking crack if she thinks the "metro" concept is gonna fly. NJSP is not gonna come down there and get shit on again like last summer. I know the shit your dealing with and the lay offs are going to hurt you guys bad.
Keep the faith and drive on.

I was not aware I could start paperwork early and a 10 week cool off period. I spoke with a FFL Recruiter via telephone and he said just have a passport and show up at the gate in France. Could you elaborate on this some more?
I have a friend who works for Triple Canopy and he said if I did 5 in the FFL I would be hired no problem. I tried DynaCorp and they put me through the ringer and I was offered a conditional job. Then they called my old police dept Internal Affairs and because of the bad reference they retracted the job offer.
Thank you.
Alright...we may all agree without rancor that you're an unlucky bastard. We may also assume the premise that you've been fucked by two of the four branches of military currently available.Well. actually three cause when the Navy fucks you the Marines have also fucked you by proxy. Based on such empirical evidence I wonder that your plan to join the legion is to show up at the gate in France with a passport.
Fuck France...I know a back-door to a bakery in East Belfast that'll get you in the fucking IRA!
You can't train for a kick in the balls!
Well I am Half Irish on my father side...
Yes I have a black cloud and been royally prison raped by Army, Navy/Marines.
I agree, fuck France. The Legion itself though is a different entity. They are the MERC unit for the French Govt that is assigned as the Rapid Response Force for the UN. Believe me I would much rather join the US Army again but my options are limited. I have very few choices left and this seems to be my last hope.
I have applied to 5 jobs with Triple Canopy on just my SWAT experience alone. I am hoping to get in with them. If not well I may not have any options left but to go to France. Do 5 years as a Legionairre, get combat experience in whatever shithole of the world they send me and God willing I make it back in one piece, well then I am employable. I can then apply for a LE or Contracting job and just put my Military Experience and leave out the old LE job which would only drag up a bad reference.
That is my genius plan anyway. I figure Mr. Murphy has been around so long maybe he will look the other way for once.
