URGENT: At least 14 people have been killed and up to 50 injured after a mass shooting at a showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" at a suburban Denver movie theater, police
Police have the shooting suspect in custody. Earlier reports said there may have been a second shooter, but police believe only one shooter was involved, KDVR tells Fox News.
Police Chief Dan Oates says city police are checking the area for explosives.
Police spokeswoman Cassidee Carlson says "the scene is still very active and we have little information for release at this time."
Witness Hayden Miller told KUSA-TV that he was inside Theater 16 and heard several shots.
"Like little explosions going on and shortly after that we heard people screaming," he told the station.
Hayden said at first he thought it was part of a louder movie next door. But then he saw "people hunched over leaving theater."
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Yeah, damn. I wonder if he had lost his job, home, family, whatever. Doesn't excuse but makes me wonder. Some nut jobs don't need a reason. I really feel for those that were caught up in this mess but I can't help but throw this in as an observation also. I'm sure it only appears to be this way but it seems like every time there is some kind of big vote or big attention getter, be it pro or anti gun, very soon thereafter, some nut job does something horrendous like this. Nothing like making it easy for Congress to vote in the affirmative for anything coming out of the UN right now. Are there wackos in the US that aspire to some kind of martyrdom in order to do as much damage to our rights as possible? This will only bring the anti crowd out in force screaming for what has been beat back in the past few years and there are enough sheeple to fall for it. When the freaken drunks kill and maim I'm guessing hundreds of people across the country every day, where is the outrage to ban cars or bars or whatever? Or is it because that is where they are sitting to come up with their "Let's ban all the guns" blather?

Well, now I have a link to give the wife next time she asks why I'm taking my gun to the movies.

This one was particularly deviant. All the bangs and noise from an action movie probably kept his victims in place longer, leading to a higher body count.

it is happening more and more. It surprises me that in a state where canceal carry is allowed that no one in the theater was armed. I use to live just a few miles from Century 16 theater. We, as a people, have certainly lost our humanity. Being armed has become a necessity!

I was wondering about whether the theater has a No Concealed Carry policy or not. But in actuality, concealed carry is a bullshit policy in my opinion. OPEN carry is what works. When I lived and worked in Colo Spgs in the '80s, I frequently wore my .45 ACP in the open, never had a single issue or negative comment, and it saved my butt from trouble twice without firing a shot. COL Robert K Brown, publisher of Soldier of Fortune magazine, was credited with foiling a Denver-area bank robbery attempt when a jackass tried a heist while he and an associate were standing in line. Just last week while in Idaho, I saw multiple people carrying openly, including a little old white-haired guy wearing an Army veteran ballcap in a grocery story who had a chromed six-shooter in a crossdraw belly holster.

If several folks in the audience had guns with them, the body count would have been lower, but if you look at the fan base of this film, most folks would have been twitching their thumbs on their imaginary game controller or tweeting about the nut in front of them.

My guess: the guy saw the last Batman flick too many times and became obsessed with Heath Ledger's Joker character, a villian who cared nothing about money or personal gain, but rather only wanted to inflict chaos and destruction on the people around him. It will likely turn out to be just another random nut job wanting his 15 minutes of fame, but couldn't sing or dance his way onto American Idol. I sincerely hope he isn't a vet.

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Pump the breaks boys! The incident happened not because the audience wasn't armed but because someone that probably shouldn't have access to weapons he was stockpiling, as seen by what was recovered at the scene and his apt. The answer isn't arm everyone, the wild west is over. Put your NRA talking points away and your testoterone pills back in the medicine cabinet.

We didn't go walking around with our M-16's strapped to our shoulders or 45's sidearmed when we were in garrison. We had an armory where we kept things locked up until they were necessary. Why? Because we all understood that by controlling the arms we could control incidents such as this. Let's ask ourselves...Are there some people that just shouldn't have access to weapons? Especially tactical weapons! Especially civilians! If they want access join the service and pay your dues like the majority of us on this site have done. We live in America and we ARE a civilized nation that should not have to walk around packing so we feel safe again.

Sorry for anyone that takes offense with My views as I never advocate to take guns away but I do not believe everyone should have one. Some people just don't have the maturity, training, self-control, emotional stability or overall grasp on reality to have access. It happened to Rep. Gabby Giffords in My own fucked up home state of Arizona. We had MP's in garrison and designated positions on post that required to be armed to ensure our safety and that when they attempt to gain control of a situation they aren't facing the question of, Which one of these 300 arm'd people in the theater is the bad guy? I want all you studs and studettes on the line with Me when Red Dawn happens and the Ruskies are parachuting in to our school yard but I don't need you packing when I go get My coffee and doughnut from Dunkin Donuts.

First let the prayers go out to the victims of the shooting and their families.
Secondly I agree not everyone should own a gun. there is a guy going around, who just came to Portland Maine, he open carries and then films the police asking him questions. When he doesn't answer them the police get angry and he ends up in court sueing the department. If you open carry expect to be asked by the police for I.D. I hope the person open carrying is not a criminal. If he Is not allowed to have a firearm then arrest him. I have a conceiled permit, I do not carry alot, I just have the permit.

Personally, I find the idea that only military service members or veterans are suitable for carrying firearms is in complete disagreement with the US Constitution.

As for the "Wild West is over" comment, I'd appreciate it if anyone could provide a single historical reference to when a gun-toting outlaw in 19th Century American West ever walked into a crowded room and shot down nearly 70 people, killing 15. Or for that matter, shot 49 people at a school, shot 43 people in a restaurant, or exploded a bomb at a govt office and then murdered 69 people at a political event, as happened in Norway.

The Wild West was never as bloody as modern society is today, but if you wish to walk around unarmed, I fully support that. But the idea that law-abiding citizens can't be part of the solution to armed criminal action has been disproved so many times as to make the rest of that commentary a failed analysis. Of course not everyone should have access to a gun, but just because it's a warm and happy thought doesn't make it a reality. The answer (obviously) isn't to keep the majority of the public disarmed 99% of the time; that's the condition now, and the body count of these events are horrific, worse than many combat scenarios.
