Just as an update to this, I picked up "Let Freedom Ring" a print for SOF units who served in Afghanistan. I had it personalized with my unit flash in the center. It looks awesome, so if you guys are thinking about it I'd highly recommend any of his prints. Mr Solovey took great care in making sure he understood exactly what I wanted, and is going to resend me an LOA after the framing place i used damaged my original one. If anyone wants to see what it looks like, I'll take a picture an email it to you. Just pm me with your addy.

A few months after we (1-505th PIR) returned from Iraq (Fallujah) we got word that Michael Solovey made a print of the battalion and was bringing the new "Take em down" print to the unit. It was a big event at the unit and came out of nowhere. Paratroopers lined up outside the Bn Classroom to get one of them which were numbered pieces and only 505 prints were available. That was the first time I heard of Michael Solovey Art and it was a cool print. I have two, one was for my brother and the other I am keeping to put up one day. Take em down was the term our Battalion Commander, LTC Drinkwine, came up with. All the Way, H-Minus, Take um down!

Peace is not made by compromise.
It does not grow out of expediency.
Peace is not a flower growing in the world's flower garden.
It is rather a product of the blacksmith's forge- hammered out on the anvils of sacrifice and suffering...
heated in the fires of devotion to righteousness,
tempered in the oil of mercy and goodness...
    Peace is a costly thing.

The print number is down in the bottom right corner, I found mine and I have 195. There were soldiers trying to get certain numbers of course but if you didn't request a certain number then you just went with the next. They kept a list with who purchased which print. They are cool. I am looking at it now and it brings back memories.

Wow, I remember ol "Spike" Solovey when he was just sketching in his room in college. Good to see he's still at it!

You went to college with him? Do you know where he is now?

I can ask around, I lost touch with him years ago. I'd heard he moved back to the Fayetteville area, but haven't seen or heard much lately. Then again, I've been gone a lot.

I was keeping tabs with him on myspace, but I closed my account down a few years ago. I sent an email to few guys in his class to see if they've heard from him lately.
