    Default Michael Solovey Art

I wanted to post this pic here for you. I am adding the link to p.net because that is where I uploaded the photo. This is an amazing sketch I bought Jim of 3rd group when they were in Astan. Michael sketched quite a few pics like this. This photo was limited and signed over to Jim. I had it professionally (museum quality mounting, glass and frame) mounted by an SF Army vet who happens to work at our local craft store. Gave us a great discount!

Besides 2nd batt, whom he knew some of the guys from his old active days, 3rd group was the closest group he came to know. The team members included him when they got their special tattoo and even went to see Luke (another reservist) when he was at Army Reed. They all thought highly of Jim and Luke and the feeling was returned. Amazing men!

That is an outstanding gift, Jen! I can see where you would be justifiably proud of that gift to your husband!

    way to go! :D

Thank you. I wanted to give him a lasting momento of his times in Astan (besides his tattoo). It is proudly hanging on our wall and will be moved to his office soon.

update from Michael on new work for 3rd group and the 82nd. "Let Freedom Ring" is the print I had made for Jim. Awesome work!

    Ladies & Gentlemen,

Just a quick note to update you on newest prints & what is in the queue. Again,
due to the sheer volume of individual emails I receive, I have now opted to
begin updating folks via my address book every couple weeks. Again, if you do
not wish to be included on this distro or wish me to use another email, please
    let me know. Thanks again.

    Recent prints posted on website:

"Desert Eagles" for 1st BN, 3rd Special Forces Group. 310 prints. Only a
handful of unit prints left. Contact Major Chris Fox at
    <> if interested.

"One of a Kind" for 16th Military Police Brigade (Airborne). 616 prints.
Prints are no longer available, but limited number of Artist Proofs still
    available.

"ALL CAV!" for 3/4 Cavalry, 25th ID. Completed & released roughly two months
ago as a unit commission. If interested contact CPT Angie Zugay at
    <>.

    New & future prints:

"Take 'em Down" Print. Attached is the latest for 82nd's 1-505 Parachute
Infantry Regiment at Fort Bragg. 505 signed & numbered prints will soon be
available through the unit. Contact 1SG Richard Lopez at
<> if you wish to reserve a print; they are going
quickly. Contact me directly if you would like to reserve one of the 50 Artist
Proofs. By far, this has been one of the most intricate pieces I have put
together thusfar & it took nearly three months to complete.

Commemorative 3rd Special Forces Group OEF/OIF Print. Title undetermined.

I am very honored as 3rd Group has asked me to compose a very special print
celebrating all OEF/OIF deployments beginning in 2002. This print will
physically be larger that the previous three SOF/OEF prints at roughly 20" x
26". Print run is currently undetermined & we are now working through the
initial sketches. A 3rd Group reservation point of contact will be forthcoming
& stylistically, will be a combination of themes from the past three SOF
Prints---"Bush Hogs" (OEF I), "Reload" (OEF II), & "Let Freedom Ring" (OEF V).

"Paratrooper Cadillac" Print. Due to the large demand of folks asking for a
non-unit specific 82nd print, concept work is now underway. The print will
feature an olive drab cargo M998 with "add-on" OEF/OIF armor, turret gunner, &
an 82nd patch & Jumpmaster wings in the background. Once released I will be
able to personalize this limited-edition print with desired Ranger/Sapper Tabs,
unit crests, & names on windshields. Run will be limited to only 820 prints &
will make a great farewell gift. Final Concept Sketch will be completed within
    the next 30 days.

Future Unit prints include 225 Aviation (25th ID), 7th Special Forces Group, &
then roughly five more unit commissions which are in the queue well into next
    summer.

Website Update will take place in the next 30 days as much more work has been
completed. Please continue to visit the site and continue to offer me your
    suggestions at anytime.

Thanks again for your enthusiam & great support over the years. I continue to
feel very touched & honored as folks hang my artwork throughout the Army. These
opportunities to contribute are very fulfilling as these pieces are much more
that just drawings to me. I truly hope that the detail & passion I pour into
each piece is felt by all who continue to serve.

    Thanks again,

    v/r
    M Solovey

A print commemorating the 1st Battalion of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment's deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan will be made available to the unit's soldiers this month.

The print is titled "Take 'em Down" and took several months to complete. It is based on more than 300 photographs.

More than 505 prints were commissioned and completed by Capt. Michael Solovey, a former Fort Bragg-based officer who moonlights as an artist.

The unit has reserved a number of the prints for its members, but others are available by special order for $85 each. For more information, go to www.soloveyart.com.

    Ladie & Gentlemen,

Another quick update to bring you up to speed on the newest prints & what is in
the queue. As always, if you do not wish to receive these updates, do not
hesitate to let me know. Thanks again.

A huge website update is underway & the following prints are not yet posted. All
my prints are personally signed & numbered and after printing is completed, I
have all printing plates destroyed. Unlike some artists, I do not do "Open
Runs" so long-term appreciation value is protected.

    A. 1-505PIR's "Take 'em Down" print celebrating OEF & OIF depoyments: Unit
commissioned 505 signed & numbered prints. Unit POC for a print is 1SG Richard
Lopez at <>. Prints are going very quickly at $30
each. Contact me directly if you are interested in one of the 50 Artist Proofs
($85). Both 1SG & I continue to get phone calls & emails literally from all
over the country on this piece.

    B. 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) Commemorative OEF/OIF 2002-2006 Print.
Final Concept Sketch to follow in next update within 24hrs.

    C. 82nd Airborne Division "Paratrooper Cadillac." 820 future prints & 100
future Artist Proofs. Future Print Size: 12.5" x 15.5." Final concept sketch is attached. This will be my first non-unit specific print resulting from the
constant requests for something "generic" enough for personalization & for use at unit "Farewells" for departing paratroopers. Keeping it "sterile" will allow me to go back and hand-drawn in requested/needed Rangerand/or Sapper Tabs, Unit Crests, CIBs, Names on windshields, OEF or OIF backgrounds, antenna flags, and even helicopters providing close air support. ReleaseTBD, but reservations have already been flowing in.

    D. 225th Aviation (25th Infantry Division). Unit commission. Working through
    initial concepts.

    E. 7th Special Forces Group Print.

    F. Seven unit commissions in the queue. Appreciate the patience.

Again, I appreciate the constant support & encouragement throughout the US,
Iraq, Afghanistan, & Europe. I pour my heart & soul into each piece with the
intent to capture the most exacting detail humanly possible while making it
"flow" into something unequivacally passionate. Each piece takes about four
months start to finish so I appreciate the patience.

    Warmest,
    M. Solovey

Today I got an email and a phone call from Michael Solovey. Apparently he found this site (I presume from this thread regarding his artwork) and wanted to touch base about his upcoming releases. For those of you that may not be familiar with his work, I invite you to check out his website, it is top notch. The link is in this thread as well as on the weblinks page. He will be passing me information to keep us informed of things he is working on and perhaps he will stop in from time to time himself. Below is the latest message he wanted to pass on:

<<soloveyart@earthlink.net to reserve an Artist Proof. APs are also all signed & numbered. $85 each. The printing plate has been destroyed (as Solovey does with all his prints) so no more will ever be produced & the appreciation value is protected.

Roughly 70% of all available APs & Prints are no longer available & we expect this set to completely sell-out in about three-four weeks.>>>

    <<
This final concept sketch alone took Solovey nearly three months to complete. It features a very common M998 HMMWV used throughout OEF & OIF with the common "add-on" armor plating, squad leader with crew served weapon, & his squad seated in the back.

The intent of the print is the ability it gives him to go back & individual each & every sold print with personally hand-drawn items at the customer's request. Items (or Thumbnail Sketches) could include, Paratrooper's names on either windshield, unit crests, CIBs, Iraq or Afghanistan backgrounds, supporting Apaches helicopters, flags flying from the HMMWV antennas, and so forth. There is huge demand for unique & personalized "Farewell" gifts at the unit level.

Solovey is only producing 100 Artist Proofs ($85 each) & 820 Prints ($55 each). All are signed & numbered & absolutely no more will be produced for he purposely has all his printing plates destroyed. Contact him directly at soloveyart@earthlink.net to make a reservation. This final concept sketch was released on the 25th of October & as of 26th, already 10% of future prints have been reserved. Release date for the physical print is within the next three months>>>

I tried posting the pic in the email he sent me, but my computer kept locking up. As you saw in the picture I bought Jim, he does AMAZING Work. Highly recommended and was willing to work with me on adding things to the pic. Decided to take the sketch as is, as it needed no embellishments. He even included all the sketches that lead up to the final peice. I have it mounted on the back of the frame.

    Default Solovey Art Update 15DEC05

    Ladies & Gentlemen,

Another quick update for the folks. As always, if you do not wish to be updated
on the latest work, please do not hesitate to notify me directly. My intent has
always been to let me work speak for itself & from the feedback I continue to
receive, we are continuing to improve your artistic experience & "strike
that nerve" primarily through word of mouth & through the great support
    of all of you.

The studio has moved from California to North Carolina this month. Please note
my new contact information if you need to reach me at anytime.

The website continues to be updated & the following prints are all posted:

    1. 1-505th Parachute Infantry Regiment's "Take 'em Down": This unit
commission really hit home with the unit's Paratroopers and their families. Very
few prints remain of the 505. If interested, contact 1st Sergeant Richard Lopez.
The 50 Artist Proofs continue to be requested. Contact me directly for information
    on an Artist Proof.

    2. 82nd Airborne Division's "Paratrooper Cadillac": 820 Prints and 100
Artist Proofs are now available after four months of work. Printing is complete.
Again, this piece was the result of the consistent requests from a generic Paratrooper
OEF/OIF piece that could be personalized for departing (PCSing) Paratroopers. We
are also looking at running a TBD set of metal/wood-burned etchings of this particular
    work using reversed imagery. MTF.

    3. 3rd Special Forces Group Commemorative OEF/OIF Print "Title TBD".
Print reservation request suspense to the unit has now passed, but la very imited
number of Artist Proofs are still available. The original is roughly 70% complete
and release timeframe is still January 2005. For the folks that ordered an Artist
Proof, a follow-up message will follow reconfirming specifically ordered numbers
    and payments received.

    4. 225th Aviation, 25th Infantry Division. Second Concept Sketch in progress.

    5. 6-17th Cavalry, 25th Infantry Division. On Deck.

    6. 7th Special Forces Group GWOT Print. Sketchwork has not even begun yet, but
some folks have already requested Artist Proof reservations.

    7. 710th Brigade Support Battalion, 10th Mountain Division. More to Follow.

Continually Improving the Artistic Experience: All of you who know me personally,
know that I take each and every piece very seriously & I am perhaps a bit "over-passionate"
about the process & the end result. Like Mel Gibson and his "Passion of
the Christ" film, my intent is to make each piece an "experience"
that can not be easily digested in one quick viewing nor forgotten easily. What
started out as a pen & ink sketch (96 Combat Patrols Today, Sir, 1998) for a
VIP in Bosnia, has really turned into a vehicle where I can really contribute to
the folks throughout the Army. The following are a few quick bullets on what we
are doing to take Solovey Art to a higher level of refinement.

    a. Beginning with the 3rd Group OEF/OIF piece, I have chosen to invest in the highest
quality paper in the world imported from the European paper company âÂ?ÂoArchesâÂ?
established in 1492 that still produces âÂ?ÂoHot-PressedâÂ? paper from the same French
mill using pure cotton fibers & natural gelatin sizing. Of all paper commercially
available, this particular process especially protects against long-term "yellowing"
    and detoriation.

    b. The color printing process has been slightly âÂ?ÂodarkenedâÂ? to more accurately
duplicate the hues of the original work. The darkest hues of each print now appear
look like they were "inked" versus using lead.

    c. We also elected to increase the thickness & durability of each printsâÂ?ÂT
storage tube to further protect your investment particularily in events of required
    postal mailing.

    d. Letters of Authenticities (LOA). Again, most artists only provide a xerox LOA
with their signed & numbered work. Each of my Prints or Artist Proofs come
with an embossed & personaly signed LOA Packet that will now begin including
an Artist Commentary explaining the "rhythm & reason" as well as a
"Flow-Diagram" illustrating how the piece ebbs & flows in a balanced
manner. I continue to receive great feedback from the folks on how they feel "included"
in the entire creative process. If you have misplaced any of your previous LOAs,
please contact me so I can send you a replacment. Remember---this is like the "Pink
    Slip" to your car.

    e. Beginning with the "Paratrooper Cadillac", The Solovey Art Collection
is exclusively teaming-up with Fayetteville's Pollitt Selection Framing & Gallery
for logistic support and distribution. The well-established & highly regarded
Pollitt Selection provides the highest quality framing & service I have ever
experienced. Fort Bragg customers will now be able to pick-up their pieces at their
leisure and enjoy exclusive framing discounts with all of my work. Credit Card
payments are now an option as well.

    f. Waiting Lists for Unit Commissions & Original Artwork: I feel very humbled
& blessed that folks patiently wait for their pieces. Composition, quality,
& accurate details will always continue to drive the process. Unfortunately,
completion time seems to slowly lengthen which each piece, but I personally feel
the quality is continually improving. Suffice it to say, please contact me as early
    as possible.

    g. Archival Storage Boxes for Unit Commissions: As minor as it may seem, all Prints
& LOA Packets are shrink-wrapped and delivered in black museum-quality storage
boxes with engraved plates (i.e. "Take 'em Down" 2005) on each and every
box for ease of internal distribution.

    h. Open-Ended Print Runs: To encourage appreciation of your Prints & Artist
Proofs, I do not do unsigned/signed and non-numbered print runs.

I firmly believe in not necessarily âÂ?Âoout-doingâÂ? others artists, but rather,
always challenging myself to more effectively bring the artistic experience &
process to you in a manner that more poignantly âÂ?Âostrikes home.âÂ? Again, I appreciate
the continual great "Grass-Roots" support & my art is driven by your
input versus what I think you probably want to see drawn.

Another quick update for the folks. As always, if you do not wish to be included on my updates, please notify me directly so that I can remove you from my address book. Thanks again. Your privacy is also important to me so I will continue to place everyone in the Bcc line.

A great deal of exciting developments: As I have mentioned before, what started out in small rented apartment overseas, The Solovey Art Collection has truly exploded as your positive input & feedback has far exceeded any expectations. Customer database in now in the thousands & the New Year saw total website visits breaking 2,400 hits per day. I appreciate the support.

To increase efficiency we have assembled a hand-picked team who collectively (and exclusively) provides mailing tubes, web-site support, automation expertise, high quality printing, & needed shipping & handling requirements.

Listed below are the most recent & future prints: Please see website for images & details.

â?oParatrooper Cadillacâ?: Non-unit Commission. 100 Artist Proofs & 820 Prints. Contact The Pollitt Selection with orders & requests.

â?oVanguards of Freedomâ?: Unit Commission for 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). 100 Artist Proofs & 400 Prints. In the works for 2006:

â?oCurrently Untitledâ? for 225th Aviation, 25th Infantry Division (Light). Unit commission. Concept work in-progress.

â?oCurrently Untitledâ? for 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Unit commission.

â?oCurrently Untitledâ? for 617th Cavalry, 25th Infantry Division (Light). Unit commission.

VMI GWOT Print for the Virginia Military Institute. Print will celebrate the achievements & sacrifices of all Alumni particularly post 9-11. The intent of the print is to fund a memorial for the Institute honoring those Brother Rats who have fallen and to honor the Citizen-Soldier ethos. A separate, detailed message will follow to Alumni.

â?oCurrently Untitledâ? for 410 Brigade Support Battalion, 10th Mountain Division. Unit Commission.

Closing caveat: As I moved the studio back to North Carolina, I contacted my Fayetteville CPA. He was out of the office & the secretary I usually spoke with was on vacation. Instead, her best friend (a fellow accountant) answered the phone and recognized my last nameâ?"I guess there are not too many Soloveys in the South. She asked, â?o Are you the artist who spoke at my sonâ?Ts school?â? I was honestly taken back & quite surprised that she remembered my horribly choked-up & â?oun-flowingâ? address to the students. I literally remember stepping out of the auditorium to the restroom upon seeing over 600 middle-school students neatly seated on the basketball floor. I felt like Arnold Schwarzennegger in Kindergarten Cop. After a couple deep breaths and some water, I did my very best to encourage pursuing dreams through hard work & passion. The lady at the CPA office later told me (during this phone conversation) that her son would not stop bugging her for a sketch pad & drawing pencils until she took him to a local art store. Conversations like that make all the hard work & late nights â?oworth it.â?

Again, I can not fully express enough my deepest thanks to those of you who have supported my artistic endeavors & my goal of contribution. Thanks again.

    Warmest,
    M. Solovey

Thanks for the link. I like the 16th MP Bde print. The soldier on there standing watch with the Brassard in view is a private from my old company. He got there right before I left and the picture was on Army.mil

My son sent me the 1/505 as a christmas gift- me being an artist & all- loved it- he sent me a drawing from a kicd in his unit too- it is awesome too-
Peace is not made by compromise.
It does not grow out of expediency.
Peace is not a flower growing in the world's flower garden.
It is rather a product of the blacksmith's forge- hammered out on the anvils of sacrifice and suffering...
heated in the fires of devotion to righteousness,
tempered in the oil of mercy and goodness...
    Peace is a costly thing.
