Welcome to our AO. Thanks for your service.

But, I second Skysharks sentiments to the letter.
I will not be so gentle...so here it is:

You are REQUIRED BY THE SITE SOP to post a proper introduction which identifies yourself to this community of HIGH SPEED individuals. Who have been there and done that. This is not an option!

We want to know who we are talking to. It makes us who we are. You have not done anything different than any of us, and not as much as Most of us. Be careful of any statements you make. Especially the Marines in BAC. In my STICK at BAC, to my immediate left and right, were 2 RECON Marines.

Don't take this as a personal attack. More of an explanation of expectations required by this Site.

    here is what is required:
Step One: Post a satisfactory introduction in the “Introductions” forum. At a minimum, your introduction thread should tell the community:
    • The dates you served.
    • Where and when you went to basic training, AIT and (if applicable), jump school.
    • Which units you served with.
    • Any schools you attended, or combat you participated in.

Note: For PERSEC reasons, we do not want you to use your full name, address or other personally identifying information in your introductory post, or in your username. Any PERSEC information in your initial post will be deleted by a moderator. If you use your last name in your username, a moderator will work with you to change it.

Well until you've been called in and counseled over forum posts asking innocent questions about how to increase your units morale you don't really appreciate maintaining a nonidentifying internet profile to the folks above you that browse this forum full time and would know in a heartbeat who I am. Personally I just don't get it, even having had to produce an essay on the matter. I mean even if I said I belong or work at unit XYZ our unit has low morale and I would like to help fix that. Is it a crime to confess to having members who don't have a high Esprit de Corps? Apparently every unit has nothing but 300+ PT scores and everyone has the highest morale.

I belonged to a very specific unit. I joined this forum primarily because a number of friends in Active Army and several Guard officers have told me I don't belong in a regular guard leg unit and that I need to get into something a little more high speed. I found numerous here references to a Guard LRS unit in GA, hence I joined.

Also in regards to the Corps sending 1 guy a year perhaps the sarcasm was lost in translation. I was in 2000 for a 4 active 4 IRR hitch as a humble 0311 not a high speed Recon guy. My unit didn't send anyone to any schools in the 3+ years I was there. We weren't high speed.

Also a Guard Beret I was referring to the Guard SF units. I am certainly no expert but everything I've been told by the recruiters is they attend all the same schools and training and are held to the same rigorous standards as the regular SF Green Berets in the regular army. As a guardsman the idea of joining a unit that will require 3 years of schools before you're mos qualified you can't help but think why wouldn't I just reenlist active duty if I was going to be active with the guard that long?

So basically no I'm not ABN qualified I'm a Marine turned Guardsman trying to find opportunities in the Guard in between giving up my life to try for SF and being a run of the mill Leg unit where using your head, fitness, etc.. isn't needed. I'm even investigating the possibility of getting a unit release and going for Marine Reserves since the Army reserves haven't got any jobs at all lately apparently they're reducing man power currently so the jobs they do have are being fought over in house.

Beef, I think your mistake is putting too much of one kind of info in an early post and not enough of another.

The rules here simply ask that you put some history up front so we can get to know you. Rather than do that and sit back and watch what happens, you have already openly posted that you have issues with your unit and made yourself identifiable to your leaders. I don't know if you can unfuck that situation at this point.

I can only speak for myself, but you seem to want to get accepted into a group of vetted individuals and veterans without following their rules, and that just isn't gonna wash. Your first post should have been a textbook intro with some info in it, and then maybe you should have hung back a tad and let folks get to know you before peppering them for info on how you can get into a more "high speed" unit.

You are correct in one thing -- no military leader wants a subordinate broadcasting online that his unit is a bunch of assclowns, even if it's the 172th Mobile Circus Support Bn. But a group like APO isn't gonna take you at your word and PM you for service details when they've already decided that the standing orders are "Prove Yourself."

I can understand what you're saying about SF. It isn't for everybody. It isn't even for everybody who believes deep down they want it, and it definitely isn't for someone who doesn't. What I don't understand is what you DO want. You want somebody here to tell you where to go so you can jump out of airplanes and be high-speed only 2 days a month and two-weeks in summer? I can't help you with that. I don't know if anyone will. Guys here of service age take their training and mindset pretty damn seriously. Most that are in the Guard seemed to have been Active Duty paratroopers first. High-speed Guard units want troopers who are mentally prepared and fully committed so they are ready and willing to go to war with them. It's not a martially-oriented fitness program for guys who believe they already know what they're doing.

My recommendation (worth nothing) is either sign up active and get what you want full-time, commit yourself to your current unit until you are a junior leader and develop your troops as an Army professional, or hit the street. You simply do not seem like you want to play by other people's rules, and when it's their game, you have to.

Best of luck to you, and again, thanks for your service - we all sincerely appreciate that.

Umm, the info you just gave indentifies who you are to anyone who knows you.

You may have reasons for coming here, but we have reasons for the requirements that exist. We are VERIFIED to be who we say we are. Don't want to jump through the hoops? Then you don't get the benefits. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

Zanshin and Charlie thanks for the replies. If anyone here has the power feel free to delete this thread before I get myself in trouble. I would have blanked my posts if I could find the missing edit button. Considering my reasons for joining this forum it is definitely in my own best interest not to identify myself the way required. Perhaps a less honest person would have just came here as a ABN groupie wannabe but I'm a little too honest for my own good at times. I meant no disrespect by refusing to give further personal identifying information about my service and it's best I limit my footprint to the pm's. Good day gentlemen. No need for further heated "SOP violator!" posts I get the message.

Fair enough. Best wishes to you.

BTW, regarding the ABN groupie wannabe, we have a way of sniffing them out. The reason we're so exacting is precisely to weed them out.
