    Default Bang

Well my device went off a little while ago. I must say it is one heck of a jolt. It's like a pretty darn good electric shock that thank goodness doesn't last too long. Hurts like crazy, scares the crap out of me because it is totally unexpected, and then leaves me on edge for some time waiting for another one. They say if it goes off once to use my home reader to send them a tape by phone and if there is a problem that requires it they will tell me to come in. If it goes off more than once just go to the emergency room. So far just the once today.

Some of you guys know this thing has saved my life two other times. I guess this makes three times. I admit to being very grateful to the good Lord for having this thing, but I HATE how it feels when it goes off.

I think I'd need a few beers to take the edge off after I got defibbed.......the anticipation of another jolt has to be no joke

I guess the question should be -- is it better or worse than having the Heathen kick you in the balls to jumpstart your heart instead?

Well I heard from VA. They read the strip from my home reader and apparently I have a new heart problem. This makes three different ones. I have an enlarged heart from congestive heart failure and have had ventricular fibrillation for years. which is why I have the device (an ICD). Now they say the ekg shows atrial fibrillation and I have to go in to see them tomorrow. More meds or at least an increased dosage might be in the works.

I would love to jump again, but realistically it would take a heavy drop. And most importantly my wife says no. She takes care of me and I won't cross her wishes. As far as a kick in the balls, well, in my heyday I used to fight a lot and have been kicked in the balls more than once. To be honest I would rather be kicked in the balls then have my device fire off.

It is, however, far better then the alternative.

No big deal, a little Cardizem and you will be good to go. On a side note I am that asshole Paramedic that has a hard time not laughing when one of those things goes off but, at least I give enough of the good shit the patient starts laughing with me...

Long and short of it is they increased my carvedilol from 12.5mg twice a day to 25mg twice a day. Supposedly tons of people have atrial tachycardia and it is mostly not too bad but since I also have ventricular tachycardia (which is a real killer) the a tach set off a v tach which fired my devise. I was in a tach for 2 and a half hours before it did it though, so hopefully the new med dose will handle it for me.
