'Justice for Trayvon': Man beaten by mob in critical condition

Late Saturday night, Matthew Owens, of Mobile, AL, was beaten so badly by a mob that he was left in critical condition with severe head wounds.

According to WKRG, police said Owens "fussed at some kids playing basketball in the middle of Delmar Drive about 8:30 Saturday night."

The kids left, and a larger group returned, reportedly armed with a variety of weapons, including bricks, chains, brass knuckles and paint cans.

WKRG added:

Owens' sister, Ashley Parker, saw the attack. "It was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed." Parker says 20 people, all African American, attacked her brother on the front porch of his home, using "brass buckles, paint cans and anything they could get their hands on."

WPMI said another witness who wished to remain anonymous, thought that when he heard Owens at the door, it was a joke.

"Then I saw about 10 to 15 people from little kids and women with dresses to adult men, just flooding onto the property, surrounding the car, hollering and screaming," he said.

"And then I heard Matthew saying, ' I'm sorry, man, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.' And then, the next thing, before I could get to the door, because we have it all deadbolted and everything, and before I could get it open, I heard all the beating and banging."

"He was laying on the ground full of blood. I mean, it was horrible. His head, everything. Blood was pouring from his head, both sides. And his whole body was drenched in blood."

After the beating, Parker said she overheard one of the attackers say: “Now that's justice for Trayvon.”

According to WPMI, there were already tensions on the street, due largely to local kids who, according to Owen's friends and family, block the street playing basketball. Relatives told WPMI it's led to some confrontations.

Local police would only say "multiple people" were involved in the assault, and so far, they have not found any suspects.

WKRG says that police are asking anyone with information to call 251-208-7211, Crime Stoppers at 251-208-7000, or text a tip to 274637 and include the keyword CRIME 411.

I don't even want to comment some of the things that run through my mind because I really, really try to be open. Twenty years in the machine removed whatever I picked up as a southern kid....but shit like this just makes my blood boil. I don't owe anybody any damn thing and don't come demanding it cause you will get more than you want. If you could get rid of the malcontent race baiters, the what problems there are would be pretty easy to solve I think. A lot of the people that get sucked into this crap don't realize that Jackson and Sharpton and the "New Black Panties" and others would like nothing more than to turn this country into their very own Somalia. And what went on with this beating is all the more reason to keep the shotgun by the front door and the sidearm strapped. It ain't gonna happen on my street.

I, for one, am tired of being blamed for slavery and oppression of a race of people. The act of slavery goes back to the dawn of time, but the Romans and the Muslims cornered the market on the slave trade and African tribal leaders became the "Go To" people to obtain these slaves. The weak and the oppressed were swooped down upon by the stronger tribes, taken and sold. Sorry....I wasn't there! I will not deny the fact that our American fore-fathers took part in this practice and brought this abomination to our country.

I grew up in the South and I'm damn proud of it. Although I did not really know a kid of another race until I was entering Jr Hi, I did not grow up a racist. I am also very proud of that. I never found it necessary to judge someone by the color of their skin. How I was treated by them determined how I treated them. The racial equality movement of the 1960's was a long over due event, but today there are people hanging on to that cry because it's an easy and convienant cop-out. It is easier to cry "racism" than to be judged on your own merit....or short-comings! It is a terrible tragedy that Treyvon Martin was killed, regardless of who started what. It is an even bigger tragedy that the MSM used it to fuel racial discord. Our country is a fucking mess. It seems to thrive on pointing the finger and blaming. News of that killing should have never left the Florida State line, and as sad it is was, what's even sadder is if it was a white kid murdered...it may would have made the 6:30 news. We have got to stop bowing to appease another race or another religion. The argument should be, "Why was this child killed?" but it never will be because there is no profit in racial equality. Too bad.

Imagine what an enormously awesome country we would be if we would just fucking grow up!
