Default Would you buy a police trade-in Glock?

Thinking I need another 9mm...like my compact Glock (G23 with a 9mm conversion barrel) but thinking a full-size G17 might be the ticket for shooting all that cheap commie surplus ammo.

    There's a place online that sells Police trade-in G17's for $369 with 1 17 round mag (I think they're from Tampa, FL.)

Any thoughts? Price seems really good, even being short a mag (new 17 round factory mag would run ~$25.)

For a little more I could get a G22 (full size .40 cal) but I'm not drinking the .40 cal kool aid again. Thought about maybe even a G21 (full size .45ACP) but not sure if I need/want another caliber (sold my last .45 in 2010.)

Would you buy a police trade in? I have a former police S&W 686 (.357 mag revolver, stainless steel) that is my 'bedside gun' but then again, L-frame S&Ws are pretty rugged pieces (mine is stamped "BRPD", no idea what city it was from. Black Rock? Bent Rim? Butt Ream? )

I bought my .40 when we switched calibers. Most LEO's are good about keeping their stuff in working order, though I've seen some that I wouldn't trust with my stapler much less a pistol. Completely on you brother, price looks good though.

Can you imagine being arrested by the Butt Ream PD?

I'd do it. And you can get $19.99 mags (factory originals) from places like CDNN, Natchez, CTD, etc. when they're on sale.

Y'all might be interested in reading the book "Glock: America's Gun" - I heard an interview with the author on the radio, and he told about how Glock created the original, pushed them to the police with very sweet deals, then modified the design and offered the Police even sweeter deals to trade-in, guessing that by making the trade-ins available to the public, their brand and market share would increase dramatically. (It worked.) It's a fascinating success story of brilliant design and brilliant marketing. Little known fact - the Glock 17 wasn't called that because it held 17 rounds, it was the inventor's 17th patent. He was a baker by trade, and designed the gun from the ground up to address issues shooters had with available handguns.

As to the gun in question, if it were in good condition, I'd do the deal - most police don't shoot their weapons that much. That said, I still keep an old S&W Model 39 as my sidearm, a nicely tuned relic of the Illinois Highway Patrol.

generally police trade-ins are a good deal. While pistols look like they are rode hard and put up we; most LEO pistols are shot very little. They see more in and out of holster wear from the simple act of gearing up daily than anything else.

I have several police trade-in Glocks and they work fine. Cops carry daily but shoot much less.
I think $369 is on the high side or a trade in and police trade ins should cone with 3 mags.
Check out GT Distributors in Rossville GA. I go to the local GT's here in Austin for most of my hardware.

As a Smyrna, GA trained Glock Armorer.....I'd say go for it. The company is a class act and they stand behind their product.

I even received parts free of charge from them when I told them I graduated their course....used to keep my old GA field office Glocks 22s running......

If you have the time take the course.
