This is one of the many reasons (IMHO) for record gun sales, and it will only take a small number of armed home owners to quell a riot.

Nowhere in my post do I suggest running and hiding, or that you shouldn't be able to use deadly force to counter a threat of death or serious bodily injury. My exact words were, as you quoted, "I don't believe the presumption should apply outside your dwelling.All that means is that if you do have to use deadly force, you should be required to prove justification. Otherwise, you might be walking up to my car to ask me directions and if I shoot you, it is presumed that you were going to cause me death or serious bodily injury. Then it would be on the prosecutor to prove otherwise. It's one thing to presume that a trespasser entering your house (or entering the inside of your vehicle) intends to cause you harm. It's not reasonable to presume that anyone you shoot on the street was intending to harm you. I don't know the mind of the Florida legislators, but I'm guessing they intentionally left the presumption language out of the Stand Your Ground section of the statute.

I'm certainly not saying Zimmerman was wrong in shooting the guy, because I wasn't there. If he reasonably believed Trayvon was going to cause death or seriously bodily injury, then deadly force was appropriate under the statute. Zimmerman should have to prove that reasonable belief, because the statute does not assert a presumption of justification outside the home or vehicle.

Good luck proving justification unless you have obvious injuries (with matching damage to the other guy) or your attacker is obviously armed.

How are you going to "prove" threatening language or gestures (I'm talking about the kind that indicates imminent danger)?

If the law had such a glaring loophole then people (particularly criminals) would be exploiting it left and right. Bearing the burden of proof for self-defense is, to me, nothing more than a slippery slope and only makes it easier for law-abiding citizens to end up doing time for defending themselves.

It should be common sense to retreat. People who have killed in self-defense never have good stories to tell about the aftermath, even if they were never charged. But making it a legal duty to retreat is giving power to the criminals.

All I have to say is.... If the shit gets too bad, my family will be bunkered down in the PD. Not to throw any fuel on this fire, but our PD was sent a "packing list" for an extended alert bag, mandatory check tomorrow. And all SWAT members are to be loaded for bear. Undoubtedly the area gangs and some students on the University are getting riled up.
