    Default NG to Active overseas

Anyone have intel on switching from Guard to active overseas? Requirements, MOS they are accepting, etc?

I am trying to request a duty station which I know is a long shot, but no sense in holding back. I'm guessing this may come down to who I know, not what I know...but I do have a high PT score, very positive counselings, and would come highly recommended by the E-8, E-9, a few O-2 and O-5's here in country, as well as my organic chain of command.

    Thanks.

That's a good question, I'm sorry I don't have info for you. Perhaps you can hunt down an active duty re-enlistment NCO of a nearby unit.

Why tiptoe through life only to arrive safely at deaths door?
The more I know, the more I know I don't know.
    If not you then who?

They told us before that because we were title 10 already, that the switch could be rather simple...but the Army is fixing to go into cut back mode so I expect it to be a thing of the past now.

I'm trackin. I paid for my own flights for nearly 2 years to get to drill to be in the unit I wanted to be in...I'll hit my next 50m target one way or another.

Danger, depending on MOS (which is a big one) you could very easily get a duty station overseas. I've had several of our guys do it in the past. It really is as simple as a 4187 and the right supporting documents, finding on open billet on the MTOE and boot-scootin' on over. However comma Magnet was right we a re in fucking super draw down mode. Majority of the units that were stabilized and "stood up" for the GWOT are disbanding again i.e. 172nd. (thank God)
Look into your more stable units like The Herd to get Italy perhaps.
Though as far as the process, just get with your 1 shop and they'll square you away. If everything comes to fruition like it SHOULD then you could quickly be moving over llike shit off a shovel.
    Good luck.

Brother CA Bubba, thanks again. The Herd is exactly where I'm trying to go. I was actually talking to your associate Lawdog today and he told me to snoop around the 172nd's retention's office and if they can't help that he'd see what he could do.Don't know about our S-1...it's Navy and right now I can't count on them for the simplest of tasks. Our SGM did say he'd check it out but he said I'd have to talk to the recruiters at Bagram. Need something more concrete than trying to get it all done on the way back, which is far out.

HEY YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOU'RE TALKIN' TO ME!

Nic, maybe try snooping around to dig up some info and get a contact number for The Herds retention. These dudes here wont do shit for ya man. The upper echelon leadership is more worried about image and things of the sort because they are going away. Just a thought Brother. Keep in touch.

Good idea. I've been looking, only found their staff duty so far. Sounds like the Navy is actually going to mke us take leave...if I get it I was planning on going to Italy and stopping by Vicenza..maybe a bit unorthodox and a lot of stupid but that's kinda my style.

Got my hands on a memo regarding new standards for NG going active. I meet all of the requirements.

Any recruiters here able to shed some light on proceeding? I have failed to get ahold of a recruiter/retention guy here in country. Sounds like to get what I want I'm going to need a recruiter for a friend. Any help would be much appreciated- thanks.

To let you know just received an email last week reservist in certain MOS's and depending on the SL 1, 2, or 3 can now request Active Duty. The window is only open for a short time. If I remember I will upload the email I received tomorrow when I am back at work..(if my government computer lets me) other wise send me a PM and I will get you the details..

I have the memo, thank you though. They're accepting 11B's of my grade. I want to get to the 173rd...I'd extend orders to meet up with them in country, or waive stabiliation after this tour..whatever it takes.

It's the Call to Active Duty. Any USAREC recruiter can help you to get the process rolling. Have every piece of paper the Army gave you ready to go (if applicable: DD214, 220s, DA 1059s, etc).

If you need more info, let me know. I work a few levels above the average recruiter.
"A dark star is an illuminating round that fails to deploy at all or fails to ignite. Such malfunctions are due to either faulty ammunition or improper fuze settings. When a dark star occurs, report DARK STAR, REPEAT, OVER." FM 6-30. In other words, a dud.
