..and I think its missing a piece. Mine has a West German flag at the bottom where the wreaths join. But I dont know what one would look like after the fall of E. Germany.

Yep - Bundeswehr Fallschirmjäger beret badge but it's missing the enamel FRG flag at the bottom.
