    Default NEEDED SME/CONTACT

    Gents take a knee.

If you didn't know I got out of the AC last December and signed with a Reserve unit. Annnnd got MOBBED shortly there after. Started flight school and planned on finishing within the next year or so.
So, here's what I was thinking.
Why not try an OCONUS contractor gig?
I have PLENTY of maintenance certifications and experience. i.e. HAZMAT, Master Driver/Trainer, Maintenance planning/ordering/parts room experience and all the things that come with being a 63 series to include H8, MIG/TIG welding, was a BN level Motor Dad for 4 years, 2 ASE, MHE operator blah blah blah
And then there's the 38B side of the house that I wouldn't be interested in doing over here. Though my clearance is still current (obviously)

That being said. If I didn't have a contact on the "inside" of one of these contracting companies would putting a resume in or trying this late in the game even be worth it. I've researched a little bit and there are jobs posted that I would be well over qualified for BUT are there 3,000 resumes stacked against this one opening?

Just a few thoughts and I figured "Hey! I'm 30 and single, so why not try?"

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated for those of you with experience.

    Tak,
    Vern

You and about 10-20,000 other guys with a similar resume will be competing for those jobs pretty soon, and they're about to get even more scarce and competitive. Now that were drawing down as a military everything is shrinking with the budget. So, those 6-figure salaries with bennies are pretty much a thing of the past. GEN Dempsy has directed that as much as possible, we need to take jobs that are currently held by civilians and put green suiters in their place.

    Bottom line, caveat emptour.

Yeah, I figured as much. However, it seems the gubment is drawing down the military numbers over here but the contracts seem to still be pretty stable for some of the larger named companies. I was figuring it was a long shot either way. We shall see.

I will also point out that if you are in a Reserve unit currently you will have to be put in to the IRR..The reserves are also finding any reason to down size..on the contractors end make friends with the POC while you are over there you never know. My guys when they are deployed they work with a lot of contractors and get in good with them and normally get hired before they head back to the states. That is how we lose our troops..I have put at least 4 people in the IRR over the last 6 months do to them coming off MOB and taking a contractor job.

Who says you don't have a contact on the inside? If you find a job listed with SAIC let me know and I'll submit your resume through the "in-house" channels.

That said, contracting companies want guys with good resumes. Having an inside contact does not always help, but it doesn't hurt.
