The 6 had surgery today

The 6 was just a few weeks ago diagnosed with breast cancer. She had the option of partial lobodamy of both breasts or double Mastectomy. With the partial, she would keep her breasts but the chances of the cancer coming back were 50/50. Plus she would have had to have radiation and Cemo. With a double mastectomy, no radiation and just a cemo pill for a few years, and no return of the cancer. She went in today for the double mastectomy. Surgery was a success. She was first on the list this morning and the surgery lasted just about 5 hrs. They removed 3 lymph nodes on the side of each breast for biopsy. They all came back negative for cancer. So there won't have to be any radiation and probably no Cemo. She will be in the hospital maybe through Sat at best. She was alert and talking when I left her tonite.

Prayers with you brother.The good news is that they got it all.My wife had a partial a couple years ago because it was very early. It's nerve racking worrying about it coming back.I think your wife made the right decision.

One unfortunate thing about this is, the mamogram did not pick up the cancer. It found a cyst only in one breast. The cyst was removed and cancer cells were found around the cyst after it was biopsied. After that she had an MRI and it found the cancer in the other breast. So, don't always trust just a mamogram to find cancer, if there is even the slightest possibility any family member may have breast cancer, get an MRI.

Keep your wife with you, RJ. Please. Convince her to do the mastectomy. Breasts beyond child bearing age are merely asthetic. Love is eternal.
