    LOL - "...100 hour war..."

Iraq invaded Kuwait 2 Aug 90 and we had troops on the ground in Saudi Arabia for DESERT SHIELD 9 Aug 90 - XVIII Abn Corps (+), VII Corps (+), and 1st and 2nd MARDIVs (+) were in Saudi Arabia by Nov 90 - the coalition launched DESERT STORM 16 Jan 91 - Iraqi forces invade Saudi Arabia in the USMC sector 29 Jan 91 and are driven back to Kuwait by coalition forces 1 Feb 91 - coalition forces enter Kuwait and defeat Iraqi forces 24-28 Feb 91 - first US forces withdrawn under DESERT FAREWELL 17 Mar 91 as we went straight into PROVIDE COMFORT and PROVIDE COMFORT 2 - we were still bringing materiel back in 1993 when I retired out of the 21st TAACOM's Civil-Mil Ops section as we went on to DESERT STRIKE, NORTHERN WATCH, and IRAQI FREEDOM...and we're still there. That's a long 100 hours.

    And so it goes...

At first believed to be going straight to Iraq, we cammoed up, then told we'd be landing in Saudi. And I'd do it all again - HOOAH!
Like I mentioned earlier. Task Force Iron(1/41) did not have the luxury of a 100 hour war. I went six weeks without a shower and a hot meal. The fact that they tried to sell it as such pisses me off.

That is exactly why I posted the 100 hour comment. Thought it, (100 hrs crossing the line, only to close, was insulting in a strange way. Also thought it was just a US Army media PR headline ploy. So....

Humped that nasty Desert for 6 months only to be turned into a wheeled vehicle assault when the ground war started. The only TV was at Brigade HQ, we had Sony Walkmans and the only English speaking channel was the BBC. As long as there was an abundance of lizards and scorpions, entertainment was cheap. We did finally figure out how to make our own hooch. Thanks to the mess Sgt for providing us some yeast.

Hats off to all that were there.

I was in Basic when it kicked off. Graduated AIT on Feb 6 1991. After getting 1 week of leave had to report back to McClellan. From there they sent us to Jackson where we did the predeployment stuff and got issued our gear. Was at Jackson for about a week and was then sent Kuwait. Had we landed a day earlier we wouldve been in that tent that got hit by the SCUD. Was only there for about a month before the unit came back.
