See that's how I feel. I know that I won't make it right now. I just don't have that mental drive. I have every INCH of drive to be a para I can FEEL it, but I know I'll just end up outting myself from selection and I don't know feel confident in Ranger School. I'd much rather just earn my way up so if I have that airborne name, I'll know I've EARNED it and then will have at least something to base saying, "I can make it through to SF/Ranger," off of.

What do you think I should do? Just keep on holding out for the 11X no matter what then huh?

Whatever you do you have to want to do it and you have to have pride in it. Whether that is being an xray tech or turning salt water to fresh or closing with and destroying the enemy you gotta enjoy your life. Most of these things can be done as a paratrooper. It pains me greatly but even some turd commo job might be good for you. :) It just depends on what you want to do with your life.

You've got a serious problem and it's you.

Your best bet is to tell the recruiter you want to be airborne and wait for it. Then tippy toe along that road until you figure it out.

If that is how you feel, then yes you better wait on an 11X slot. If you go into this believing you are going to fail, you are taking a chance away from some other high speed and starting your career on a back slide. You cannot have failure in your heart or vocabulary at all.... for any job in the Army... but sure as shit not for SF or Rangers.

Exactly. Never fear, I refuseeeee to go to some comm job and even though the other jobs in the Big Green Machine have great purpose and maybe need bodies, I think I could be more valuable busting my ass in a field where physicality is a must. I feel like my recruiter is gonna want to punch me in the head for this, but I just don't want to bite off more then I can chew. The challenge that being a paratrooper represents feels like something I would literally enjoy, but the SF or Ranger challenges feel like they'd be too much for me and that I'd screw myself over and v.w. and get stuck doing something I don't want to do.

If it's just because I don't think I'm ready for Ranger School or SF selection then that's a little lame :/ But that's just how it goes I guess. I dunno but I contacted my recruiter and he says that that's not a big deal since he just wants me to get to where I'm trying to go and I have to be the one that decides where that is. Plus he said the 18x slots he was looking at the other day when we decided I was going to MEPS tomorrow have disappeared anyhow so he's gonna see what comes up before tomorrow but if not we'll just keep me on my workout schedule and wait.
