Default 3 Jan 2012 Weekly Indoor Shoot

Last nights results for our Indoor Match and the course of fire...I tried a couple of new things shooting from your back like you were using the curb for cover and used strong hand only...and the last stage was a flashlight stage all in all a pretty good shoot last night.

It's a great time shooting with the Son...Like I've said before I can see the man he can be in there sometimes but he still has some kid in there It's a great thing to see honestly I wouldn't have it any other way. You can't get this time back once it's gone and they're all grown up.

As a child, you're correct. But, I continue to have a great
time with my son. Now that he is an adult. He has his own
weapons/ammo...and we have a great time together.

It's the bonding time you're having now...that is the foundation
for your relationship when he is all grown up.

Here's a Video of the Flashlight Stage...It's amazing how much difference there is when you have a flashlight in your hand and it's pitch black around you.....Perspective it gives you is impressive.

It makes you focus. Tunnel vision. Your scores would improve substantially if you could learn to focus like that during daylight.

These indoor shoots we don't have a lot of space and since we're a new club so we make due and have to be creative. I want the stages to be challenging for every level of shooter but, not impossible to the new shooter. We also have the constraints of the backstop it's rated at .50 BMG but we have angles to use so we are not hitting the concrete walls.

If you check the stages I would love some input on things to try and challenge the shooter in a confined space.

Clear closets. We used to just shoot through door and the walls. Then open the door.

Bell, the only problem with that is that we're shooting Defensively that would be more Offensively

    This looks like great fun!
Question about the "tunnel vision" though. Wouldn't it be better to be able to "focus" on the target while still keeping aware of other threats with your peripheral vision? Seems to me some class or other I took said that being completely "tunneled" is a baddish thing?

'Nother question about flashlights -- how hard does that make the RSO's job when you can't watch the shooter - or do "you" have a light to watch "his" gun?

Don't confuse the two words. The flashlight and the dark creates tunnel vision. It makes the shooter focus on the target and not his surroundings. If you can learn to focus like that during daylight you'll be hitting where you aim.

Where do you aim when you shoot a target? Focus has a lot to do with how well you shoot. For that one small second you take aim you should be looking at the thread hole on that button, not the button itself. Oh, you were just aiming center mass?

LOL - yeah, that would be me! So far in my pistol-shooting career I've only ever had IDPA-type targets - no clothing. I know the thread and button thing was metaphor, and I try to do that with my front sight, but then I lose the "big picture". I'm still squinting one eye, too, and I know I should be keeping both eyes open. Maybe flashlight drills would help, but no place for that around here, and I don't live near Yrualeg.
