Wow. Impressive that someone can live through conditions such as the ones listed, and maintain such a humble state.

we didn't get names while I was over there but that shot on the RPG sounds familiar from my time in 03-04. if he is the shooter it was with a barret on a target leaning out a minaret to shoot down on American vehicles below.
I just finished his book, his account says it was an RPG leaning out to fire on a Bradley if I remember correctly. He didn't use a barret, he had a custom 338, a 308 and a
300 win mag, all custom bolt guns other than the .308, which was an AR 10 platform. It was a great read by the way.
Sorry for the two posts, I can't use the edit feature.
I was there when things were chaos. The raw report I got was 'sf operator hit an insurgent with a .50 at 2300m while. . .(insert rest of story) . . .'
You have to keep in mind the times I'm talking about it was a meat grinder, and that sort of shit happened every day. My buddy's tank company in 1-66AR was in a fight in Samara where they racked up between 650-800 enemy KIA in an afternoon, and it never made the news because we didn't lose a single troop. We would listen to snipers on the BCT net calling out arm sales in the market in down town Tikrit and when the buyers showed you they took 3-1 in the middle of the market and left them in the streets and send a squad over to the hospital that evening to pick up the wounded guy. We were listening to that like a Sunday morning football game as we cheered on our team. There was all manner of action and heroism that never saw the light of day.
