I like my Oakleys. Someone mentioned that they wear quickly and the first pair I got in 2006 did, but the last pair I got have been holding up well.

I got my New Balances in tonight, and instead of breaking them in, I went on a 12 mile ruck. I was actually shocked at how well they performed for the duration compared to well broken-in running shoes. Thanks for the suggestion Mac, I am extremely pleased. BTW, I was accepted into NC State tonight, so I am officially locked in for ROTC. Thanks to everyone for their advice and help thus far.
Congrats Pacman, you will be close to quite a few of us Brother.

I'm glad to hear they are working out for you. I wanted to add a recommendation for my favorite all-around boots. Ideally these are good for garrison, deployment, jumping, rucking, whatever. http://www.blackhawk.com/product/War...ts,1062,20.htm
These come highly recommended from my friends, but I have not tried them: http://www.rockyboots.com/Product-De...ary-Duty-Boot/$265 Yowza!!
Congratulations on getting picked up pac!
Keep in mind pacman that as a leader of men you'll have to set the example by performing in what your men are wearing/using. The lower enlisted will grab any excuse available. "Yeah, but look at what the LT's wearing, of course his 12 mile speed march time was better." It also will create the perception that "issue" equipment isn't adequate and will cause the ones that can't afford their own gear to doubt their issued gear.
Get into a spec ops unit you won't have to worry about this angle but if in any "Big Army" unit you will.
I understand Jeff82. This is something that hadn't crossed my
Mind much, but I don't care to work out in issue gear. I will be sure and remember this, although seeing as I am just training on my own right now I figured I would use something a little more preferred.
Roger that Jeff, I really appreciate the advice and take it to heart.
