Default Pakistan retaliation puts NATO in lurch, saying alleged NATO attack kills 24 soldiers

Still digesting the news feeds and awaiting the results of investigation, but this is not good.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The Pakistani military Saturday said that NATO helicopters and fighter jets had fired on two border checkpoints and killed 24 soldiers, an incident that sent the two nations’ uneasy alliance into new crisis and fanned domestic criticism of Pakistan’s cooperation with the American war effort in Afghanistan.
Pakistan issued swift and furious condemnations of the early morning strike in the Mohmand tribal region along the Afghan border, which the military deemed unprovoked “aggression.” Within hours of the incident, Pakistan responded by shutting down the two border crossings used by trucks to ferry about half of supplies to coalition troops fighting in Afghanistan. Pakistan does not allow those coalition forces to enter or fire inside its territory.

(AP) PESHAWAR, Pakistan - Hundreds of trucks carrying supplies to U.S.-led troops in Afghanistan backed up at Pakistani border crossings Sunday, leaving them vulnerable to militant attack a day after Islamabad closed the frontier in retaliation for coalition airstrikes that allegedly killed 24 Pakistani troops.
As Pakistan army chief Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kayani attended the funerals of the victims, including a major, the U.S. sought to minimize the fallout from the crisis, which plunged Washington's already-troubled relationship with Islamabad to an all-time low.
Pakistan also ordered the U.S. to vacate an air base that is used by American drones to target al Qaeda and Taliban militants in the country's tribal region along the Afghan border. The U.S. has relied heavily on drone strikes in the past few years, partly out of frustration with Pakistan's refusal to target militants using its territory to stage attacks against American and NATO troops in Afghanistan.

    fuck you Pakistan, again...........

Pakistan closes key Afghan crossing after attack

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A Pakistani customs official and a terminal operator say Pakistan has closed a key Afghan border crossing to NATO supplies after the U.S.-led coalition's helicopters allegedly attacked an army checkpoint, killing 25 soldiers.
The customs official told The Associated Press by phone Saturday that he received verbal orders to stop all NATO supplies from moving across the border through the Torkham crossing.
The operator of the border terminal where NATO supply trucks park before getting clearance to cross said the vehicles had been stopped since Saturday morning.
They spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.
The Pakistan military has blamed NATO helicopters for the attack on the checkpoint late Friday night. NATO is investigating.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

KHAR, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistan state TV says the death toll from an alleged NATO helicopter attack on a Pakistani army checkpoint near the Afghan border has risen to 25 soldiers. State TV reported the death toll Saturday.
The Pakistan military has blamed NATO helicopters for the attack on the checkpoint in the Mohmand tribal area late Friday night.
NATO officials in Kabul said Saturday they were aware of the incident, and would release more information after they were able to gather more facts about what happened.

Well, there are always cash-hungry chunks of the former USSR to explore (mouth full of "-stans").
Even though they are across the whole A-stan from the major action, Salang Pass and northern entry points look as more lucrative alternative.

    OK, it's getting interesting:
Afghan Officials: Pakistan Fired First in NATO Attack
Afghan officials say NATO and Afghan forces patrolling near the Pakistan border came under fire before they called in the NATO airstrikes that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers on Saturday.

Sunday's account by unnamed officials contradicts Islamabad's claims that the attack on two Pakistani army bases was unprovoked.

If it's true, then those whoring "allies" better pay dearly.
    Stay tuned.

I'm not on the "in" so most of my talk is from observation. I can't understand why we put up with those lying little bitches in Pakistan. Cut their money off and then threaten to stomp em if they move crooked.

If you're not with us, you're against us. And everything I've seen coming from that place is irritating.

Pakistan is the new puppet of the Taliban and Al Queer-eye-for-the-six-day-a-week-straight-guys. It has been underhandedly usurping NATO and American power since the beginnings of this war. One need only check the history to see it. Now, they are becoming a little more obvious in their subterfuge since Afghanistan has pledged their allegiance to Islamibad in case of a Paki-American war. Time to close all monetary assistance to the shithole, cancel any and all military/intelligence assistance, and tell the goat fucking EAMBLA members to practice multi-tasking and go outside and fuck themselves.

Won't happen. Pak is nuclear. We will continue to play (pay) with Pak as it is in our interest to have influence with the country as long as it has nukes. Pak is learning that our desire to ensure their country stays stable and their nukes under control is allowing them to act more and more of the fool with us doing nothing to stop it.

I don't think it has anything to do with who's in the WH. That will be our policy regardless. Look how BushII sidled up to Musharef and then the guy that replaced him. We ain't going anywhere.
