    Default Need Some Advice

    1. Hello guys I have some questions I need answers too. I just visited an Army Recruiters office today to discuss 11b option 4 contracts. He said there were none available to him at this time, and his suggestion was join as an 11b and during basic they would ask for Airborne vols. Yeah well I have grew up around the Military my father served for 20 years I will do nothing with out a contract. I seen some older stuff on here saying ask for FSR2S what is that exactly? Also it says to have him call the ROC, how do you ask that with out sounding like a prick about it? This is what I want to do, and all I want to do so I need to get this resolved. I took my ASVAB it was a 71 GT he said was high enough for "any thing" but that was all he said about GT. Please help here any way you can.
Just some background on me I just turned 28 years old, I was over 300lbs at 5'9. When I fully made the decision this is what I want to do with my life I buckled down and now 1 year later I am 168lbs 5'9. I lost the weight the correct way hard work running, walking, and lifting weights etc. So I am in excellent shape, no blood pressure issues, zero joint problems etc. I am ready to rock I have trained to hard to not get what I wanted now.
    Thanks again,
    Daniel

Sorry to double post but I almost forgot to add I was told the 82nd could not be written into the contract? Is that incorrect or is that the way this works?
    Thanks again,

Wait for option 4...don't sign until it says what you want. I got the 82nd written into my contract, but it was 1992...may be different now

I was a recruiter 3 years ago and things have changed a lot since then with the economy and the draw down of deployments effecting recruitment. Back then the Army bent over backwards to get people to join, now everybody wants in for job security. Even during the height of the surge in Iraq when the OIF was quite unpopular with the public and recruitment very low, I never saw anyone actually get Choice of Duty Assignment. It was possible with no other incentives, but I never saw it happen. I advise you to hold out for 11x with Option 4, but don't fret about not having Ft Bragg (82nd) in your contract 'cause that ain't happening. But think about it, there's a very limited places that require Airborne Infantry and the 82nd is by FAR the largest, being the only Division, so someone should say if they think different, but you have maybe even better than 50/50 that you'll wind up in the 82nd.

And nice work on dropping so much damn weight, fatty!

Why tiptoe through life only to arrive safely at deaths door?
The more I know, the more I know I don't know.

Thank you it took hard work and I was a MEGA fatty but that is over now..

I agree with you right now I need to worry about getting the 11b option 4 contract I want. I was reading through other posts tonight and I seen if you talk with the NCO for the 82nd while at jump it could influence your chances of landing there? How do you feel about that? I would agree given the size of the 82nd if I cant get it in my contract if I request it it would seem to be a better than average chance I would land there.
    Thanks for your help,
    Daniel

Weazle said exactly what I was going to tell you. I did my recruiting time further back than him, and I would still say get it on paper or you don't have it. Tell your recruiter flat out that you want 11X option 4, and that's all you'll sign for.

Be ready to stand firm...and possibly walk away from it. If he/she doesn't want to play that game, you can always check in another office.

Daniel is saying 11B and all former recruiters are saying 11X- 11X being that it will be either 11B or 11C.

Guys, is it true that one cannot get 11B contractually guaranteed these days, only 11X?

BTW, Daniel, congrats on the weight loss and thanks for stepping up.

11x is it. The Army assigns as needed.

Thanks, and know problem I am ready to get going.

The local recruitter told me getting an 11 Bravo as he calls it will be no problem I can get that today, however the issue is the option 4 that I am standing my ground on. Know he maybe saying 11b but would write and 11x I am unsure because I will not let it get that far in-till it has an option 4 behind it. I will be taking my father along when it comes time for me to sign my contract, he served 20 years, and knows what to look for. So I am lucky there he however is unsure how the Army does things as far as playing hardball with potential recruits. What he is saying is this in the USMC (where he served) kids come in looking for infantry all the time. The guys will inform them sorry nothing open 7 out of ten let it go and do what the recruiter wants from there. For the three standing pat it may take a few weeks but they get what they want. Is this much true of the Army most of the time? If so how can I slice through the BS and get this show going? Last is it common to be given orders out side of the states the first go around? I would love to go see Asia, or Europe.
Thanks Again sorry for all the questions.

You will be 11x there is no choice with active Army. Also.. are you sure you're not mixing your scores up? A 71 AFQT is not a bad score.. a 71 GT sucks monkey cock, to put it bluntly.

IMO, Wait for the contract that you want. I was impatient when I enlisted and am now unhappy with where I am.

On the flipside, recruiting sucks right now. They don't seem to really give a shit about getting people in. So it depends what your priority is, being Airborne or being a soldier period.

Paratroopers are fags anyway. Legs lead the way.
