I've been reading a lot on this stuff. The Trombe and tamped earth walls are going to get some experimentation this fall.

In other areas, I'm up to 3 months food for my family of seven. I've also secured a well and a multi option water filtration plan. I've narrowed most of my rifles to 30-06, 7.62x39, 5.56, and .22 for ease of ammo planning.

I still haven't been able to afford the battery and mounting systems for the wind turbines. Grrrr

Curious what 30-06 offers that the Ruskie 308 doesn't; a bit longer range, maybe? And maybe accuracy, depending on the firearm you have in the 7.62x39 caliber (I'm picturing a bolt action .30-06 v. a semi-auto AK/SKS variant, although there are certainly good bolt-actions in that caliber as well.

Back in my Colorado days, I liked the .25-06 for shooting 4-footed critters. I didn't take on big game like elk, mainly because I had no desire to carry large amount of dead creature meat out of mountainous terrain.
We were the kids who would jump off a bridge if our friends did it.

I already have my Garand (keepsake), a 1903 Springfield (keepsake), a Rem 700 BDL, a Browning BAR (the hunting rifle and keepsake), an high end Savage bolt action, a pre-64 Win model 70, and a few crates of WWII and Korean era ammo.

It was a no brainer not to change out.

Yeah, but money is tighter than hell right now with a kid at SFA Univ and another getting married in a month or so.

I got a set cheap and recieved what I paid for. They played out in a couple of weeks. I broke even though on core charges.
