A few months ago I tried to request my father's military records from the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis,MO. I recived a letter back from them about 2 weeks ago, this is what they told me. Apparently there was a fire in the building in July of 1973 that destroyed millions of records. The area which suffered the most damage in the fire were those of: Army veterans discharged or deceased between November 1, 1912, and December 31, 1959. And Air Force veterans discharged, deceased, or retired before January 1, 1964, whose names come alphabetically after Hubbard, James E. My dad's records being in the first catagory. So they sent me a form to fill out, with some questions.Serial/Service number(s), Final Rank, home address when entered service, home address when released from active duty. Place of enlistment or induction. Basically, all the info I was tring to find out when I requested his records in the first place. Some of this I know, but most of it is unknown to me. I filled it out the best I can but I'm not sure that I'm going to get anywhere this is the second letter asking for more info. I don't know what else to do at this point. Can anyone help?
