LZ X-Ray was one of the finest moments in the history of the Army. The Cav gave the NVA/VC hell and many of the heroic actions will never be recognized; it is sad.

Unfortunately the upper management of the military saw the body count of X-Ray to be the way to judge success of the War. The great minds of McNamara, Johnson, et al; are the reason there are many fine people/troops on that granite wall in DC. Never in the history of war has body count been a method of measuring success. Never in the history of warfare did you waste lives to conquer a piece of ground only to leave it behind two weeks later. The whiz-kids of the Johnson Admin knew way better than those who were the warriors and led directly to so many fine souls being wasted and to filling slab after slab of granite which is now the Vietnam Memorial. May the souls of McNamara, Johnson et al rot in hell they were in my opinion murderous bastards.

Sadly this is the legacy of the current occupant of The White House and his group of geniuses and their execution of the actions in Iraq and Afghanistan... may their souls rot in hell like the icons of the 60s.

    Some very good points, brother.

Lot's of bravery, and personal tragedy brought on by politicians.

I've always wondered how brave the politicians would be if their
family was put on the front lines...not protected by a Batt. of hard chargers
    in the rear!

I'm going to try to get another autographed copy of the book for a prize at next years sizzler.

    Good idea?

Here is an animated map and sequence of events.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth a war, is worse. A man who has nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance at being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

    Excellent source of information T10.

The maps are a great tool showing the
    movements of the combatants.

A few years ago I was staying at the downtown Hilton Garden Inn attending my annual Company Managers meeting the week of the Indy 500 and was having breakfast with some fellow managers when one who knew I was prior service asked me what award the gentlemen behind me was wearing.

Imagine my surprise when I saw not only Bruce Crandall wearing his CMH but several other men eating and visiting also wearing the CMH. I was so very fortunate to have the opportunity to speak to a few of the award holders to include Bruce Crandall where I leared they were in town for a parade starting at Monument Circle for all the surviving CMH holders.

It was an honor to shake the hands of men of that cailber that day and thank them for thier efforts on the Nations behalf. What I saw was a humble and unassuming bunch of men whom did great things in their prime and I was awed by the few stories a couple of them shared with us. Especially one very small fella who won his at Anzio. Breaks my heart to see us losing so many from WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

But I will never forget the feeling to be in the presence of so many extrordinary hero's, for me that was a blessed day to be able to thank so many of those guys personally.
