    Default Scaling Walls

I found out recently that one of the local parks has a couple 10 foot walls, so I took my 9 year old daughter over there this morning to see if I could still get over one unassisted after 25 years. Piece of cake. I showed her how to do it, then had her practice on a six foot wall. By the time we left, she was getting over the wall and landing on the other side in under 10 seconds. Finished up by showing her how to do a wall scale using teamwork. After several unsuccessful attempts of trying to grab and hold onto my fingers as I lay across the top of the wall, she finally grabbed onto my wrist, pulled herself up and was very proud of herself sitting on top of the 10 foot wall next to her old man. She got the concept of running up the wall pretty quickly, and when she grows about a foot more, she'll be scaling it without assistance.

I also assisted her with doing pullups, and we did some calisthenics and stretching both before and after.

Best part, a couple kids came over from the children's playground and asked what we were doing. My daughter says "Army training, but without getting yelled at."

Memories being built, and lessons being learned. Drive on Scott, you're setting an outstanding example.

I had brief flashes going through my mind today of pinning wings on her at jump school graduation, but so far she has her mind set on being a veterinarian. I figure can at least instill in her the Airborne values and mindset.

Thanks for that info, brother. If they will pay for her to go to vet school so I don't have to, I might have to start nudging in that direction, lol.

I can tell you that they will pay for school. I have a friend that looked into it last year, the Army pays for it.

USASOC is always critical short on Vets, and you must be on jump status to be assigned.

That's great. Scaling a wall is one of those skills you never know you'll need until you need it. Make her as ready as best you can. Now go find a wall with a pipe or whatever running down the side and teach her how to climb up that.
At some point in your life you must look in the mirror and decide if you like what you see.

Thanks to all the info from you guys, my daughter told me today that she wants to be an Airborne Veterinarian. She wants to go back to the park this weekend and do more walls, plus she wants me to teach her to do a PLF.

Santo: You're assuming that I can still climb said pipe myself in order to give her proper instruction, lol.
