Default GA 3-108th CAV LRS Information

My name is Brian, im 22, I currently reside in NY and considering moving down to GA. Im in a signal battalion at the moment in the Army National Guard. I didnt know much about the military when I initially enlisted and I always wanted to be part of that team mentality that I thought I would recieve when joining. Ive realized over time that the path that im currently in isnt the career I want out of the military. I want to push myself further in my career and be part of something more.
I've been interested in joining an LRS unit for sometime now but not staying in signal, I would like to reclass into an 11 series MOS. I feel that a unit like the 3-108th LRS can help me achieve what I am looking for in the Army, which is being part of a unit with a strong team mentality, going airborne and working my way up to going to ranger school. I know there are some members on this site that are in or familiar with this unit and could maybe help guide me in the right direction. Im serious and honest about persuing this career and any input or advice would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with them unless they just reflagged the old Hco 121. I'm sure someone around here can help you, but if it's Hotel 121, you'd be an idiot not to try.

Makes sense, they're an outstanding unit, with some squared away Warriors. I had two of their privates assigned to my Fire Team in Iraq, and know/knew a lot of those guys. It's a great unit, and the La Grange recruiter is who you need to contact for IST.

    Thank Sgt Raven.

I called the La Grange office and they weren't much of any help, I tried getting contact information and they told me I had to be released by my current unit first before I can even get information on who to contact down there.

That was a lazy recruiter's answer. YES, you would need a release(or inter-state transfer)but a couple simple answers could have been provided. Now don't know if LRS(H Co.)has been rolled into RSTA,which is 3/108 Cav or they're still two separate entities. LRS is(was?)on jump status and the RSTA unit, while getting slots for all the cool schools is NOT on jump status from what I understand. Do a little more homework(call another recruiter!)and find out if I'm right. Look up RSTA(Reconaissance Survelliance and Target Acquistion)and you'll see their mission and how the Squadron breaks down. Good Luck.

I guess I don't know how the Army side works but that's some utter bullshit that you can't even get info. WTF!?!? I'm a cunt hair away from stabbing every fucking recruiter I see. Dude there's got to be someone around, some google fu, fuck even facebook intel you can dig up to get numbers. Good luck and don't let those fuck tard recruiters turn you away.

I appreciate the help and input from you guys. I tried explaining to them that this unit would be the reason why I move down there and I didnt want to go through getting out of my current unit if im not even sure they have room for me down there.

I found a contact number for a SFC Kirkland the readiness NCO but someone said the number didnt work anymore and it was to late to call so ill give that a shot tomorrow.

I wouldn't drive down from NY until I was reasonably sure someone would be there.

Have you tried calling the Lagrange National Guard Armory?

    Yellow pages gives (706) 845-4133.

You probably won't get the right guy the first call.... bird-dog it.

There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. But at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You had to live -- did live, from habit that became instinct -- in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized. E. A. Blair

Maybe I can help you a little bit. I have been in the Georgia Army National Guard for a little over 11 years now. I am from LaGrange, and that is a transportation unit. They are not what you are looking for. H Co 121 LRS is no more here in Georgia. After the realignment of the units here in GA as we transitioned to lighter forces and shed our armor, they went away. Except for a volunteer deployment from 2007-2008 I have been in the 108th CAV (Armor) from 2002-2010...until my current assignment to B 2/121 Inf. When 3/ 108 Cav came about the LRS guys were rolled into one of their companies, although I am not sure which one exactly. There are some guys who used to be LRS who will swear up and down they still are, but officially, from what I have been told, they are no more. Also, many of the guys who were not stellar soldiers in the 1/108th were pushed off to the 3/108th when it came about or they transferred over there because they knew they would never get promoted since many were substandard troopers. Not all are bad, don't misunderstand me as I have a few friends over there who are great, but they are surrounded by incompetence. The most LRS training you will probably get is to be put in the dying cockroach or have to play medal of honor, but other than those dumb games you will be disappointed. I think one of the companies may still get airborne, but any of the infantry or cav units in GA now can get air assault, sniper, ranger, mountain warfare, or pathfinder. If you are looking for high speed army NG units in this area, we have 20th SF in Alabama right across the state line. Just trying to save you some trouble. If you still really want their number let me know and I will get in touch with a couple of them and get it for you, but in all honesty, you will get the same schools and treatment as any other infantry or cavalry unit.
