My daughter and I placed flags beside my memorial stones out front and discussed it.
Just need to raise ours right, and continue to spread the word.

Rest well, my brothers and sisters in arms. We live free today because people like you were willing to go in harms way, and never return.
We remember, and always will.

I remember Loren Buffalo, killed in action 9 March 2011. Cpl Buffalo of Mountain Pine, Arkansas, died in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Buffalo was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
His memory is special because it was on my C-17 that his personel effects came home. I was honored to complete such a task.

Yup, cookouts, parties and celebrations. Unfuckinbelievealble.
First, since they are closest to me, rest in peace my father and father-in-law who both fought from the beaches (my father) and up from Italy (my father-in-law) until the wars end.
Second, with all the respect I can muster, to all those who payed the ultimate price and the injured in body and mind rest in peace and may God protect you and keep you in his good grace.
Thank you and the rest of you combat veterans for placing yourselves in ultimate danger for the lives of your countrymen.

Maybe not the place for this. Anyway.
Dad never spoke of his service. He was ashamed that he never went overseas. He had a scar on his eyelid that made him look sideways at something close. The army decided he shouldn't be overseas. So he was a drill instructor at Fort Ord. He probably instructed most of your dads entering the service in WWII.
Dad died in 92. I've learned a lot about his military after his death. He never spoke of it.

I'm a little late to the party here, but I wanted to say thank you to IEDMagnet for the kind words about my husband, Dave. I re-Google him every once in a while to see if I can find anything I haven't found before, thought at this point, it didn't seem likely. It was a pleasant surprise to find this and I appreciate your encouraging people to celebrate Memorial Day appropriately, as well. Can't say I have always done it well, but now it is a very personally important holiday, especially since the he died the day before Memorial Day in 2008.
One of his buddies from the company has organized the 3rd annual memorial golf outing for him to take place in less than 2 weeks, and it will be so nice to see them again. If I can't have Dave with me any more, hearing how much others love him is some consolation. No matter how short our time was together, I was blessed and honored to have him choose me for his wife!
Welcome to our AO, Miss Lime.
My condolensces on the loss of your Husband. Dave is a friend to Mike (IEDMagnet), thus a friend to us.
I'm honored that Mike shared his story, and happy he has not been forgotten.
Please, do me a favor. Go into the introductions thread, and post a lil bout yourself.
Some knuckledragger might come along, not knowing who you are, and put his/her
foot in their mouth.
Also, you will be allowed to continue to participate in many other discussions.
Thank you for your sacrafice, and always know, we will never forget those who
sacrafice so much for the freedoms we enjoy.
God Bless,
RH

As I read through the comments made here, I had to really think of what I wanted to say that made sense. I did 20, made Just Cause and Desert Shield/Storm. I never personally knew anyone that gave the ultimate and for that, I have to say that I was blessed that I didn't have to go through the anguish of losing a friend or comrade and it really makes it hard to make the connect with those that have. To me, that's just something you can't draw a picture in your mind and relate to.
I remember my Dad always talking about the good times and good things that happened around him on his ship during WWII but he never talked about the ships that were sunk and the fear of the unseen Uboat or torpedo track and I never prodded. I figured if he wanted to talk, he would have; I found it kinda difficult at times to try and relate to what he had gone through, you just can't.
I guess what I'm trying to say in my round-about convoluted way is that I am very appreciative of and thankful for those who go in harms way and were willing and did in fact give their all for the freedoms I enjoy today, that everyone in this country enjoy today.
I stand with head bowed in deepest respect and salute those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. RIP troopers, your sacrifice has not been forgotten.![]()
