IIRC, the extra time it takes to deploy the chute during a helo jump can be disconcerting.

There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. But at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You had to live -- did live, from habit that became instinct -- in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized. E. A. Blair

Remember to get a good push away from the helicopter. The last thing you want to do is take a dive through your risers...I'm told it's not a pleasant experience and many people end up with fewer teeth than they started with.

You'll do fine... it's a great experience. Just always remember that should you experience a complete malfunction, you have the rest of your Airborne life to fix it.

Yeah, get a good push off and you'll be fine. Completely different than a regular door exit but wicked fun and a nice view.

If they run it right youshould have a good interval between jumpers; a lot of air all to yourself.

If it's not an OPSEC violation, which DZ? St Mere?

    Good Fun, enjoy it!

Made my cherry from an H-34 at Finthen Army Airfield, just outside Mainz, in Sept '63. Not like tailgating a Caribou, but still fun enough!

Reminds me of one of our cherries back in the day. At the time you had to go to a special class to certify jumping the MC1-1B which they were doing out of Blackhawks. This was our cherrie's Cherry Blast. Push off he did and down he went... without being hooked up!! Like a Trooper he counted, no chute, pulled his reserve and floated down to earth. Got back on the chopper and jumped again! This time without problem. That JM was gone from Division within a couple days.
