I was glad to leave and retire. Ft Gordon just sucks.
I took Signal AIT at Ft. Gordon in the fall of 1977. I wonder if we were in the same company.

    What Company was that August?

As I recall we were all 05 series Radio op types in my unit. Did you guys have students train those same MOS's or did the 4th Bn concentrate on something different?

Our Company was the 31M course. Multi Channel and before that it was called Radio Relay and Carrier. If you remember the whole Company had to wear helmet liners with the Company on them. The Cadre had to wear them also. I still have mine. I also have the manual issued to me in 1958 when I attended the Radio Relay course(abbreviated version) for three weeks and then to 05C for a couple of weeks

I was at Gordon for basic in 1966. A-1-1. First Sergeant Ring. Platoon Sergeant Granholm.

200 Army Reservists and National Guard along with about two dozen Puerto Rican draftees and one RA.

Fun times. Lots of sand, snakes, and chants that are no longer politically correct considering the coed nature of the Armed Services.. :)

    Best regards, Glenn

I went through in 1968. It was named Camp Crockett and several miles from main post. It was in the boonies. We lived in Quonset huts heated by kerosene type stoves and had porta potties outside. No showers. Had to double time down the road approx 1/2 or 1 mile to shower point. Haircut truck came in once a week and had a small PX trailer on site. Only 3.2 beer was available. Had shake and bake NCO's who weren't worth a shit in lieu of drill sergeants. Course lasted 9-10 weeks. Racial problems were common. Only way to get to main post was to donate blood or take the Special Forces exams. Course was not difficult but inadequate for vietnam combat service. However the chow was good. Had to do a certain minimum of pull ups before entering the mess hall. Over all atmosphere sucked due to living conditions, racial tensions and the lack of quality NCO's.
