GLAMIS — A Riverside County man died at the scene after plunging 150 feet from sand dune Sunday while riding an all-terrain vehicle at the Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area.
The man was identified as John Wassink, a 65-year-old Perris resident, said Imperial County Deputy Coroner Rodolfo Barron.
Wassink was riding a 2008 Yamaha Raptor 700 up a razor back sand dune and failed to turn from the edge and fell over, Highway Patrol Officer Temo Beltran said in a press release.
Wassink was ejected from the ATV on impact when it landed on its front wheels and suffered trauma to his head and abdomen, Beltran said.
