    Default Death of Neighbor

Yesterday evening turned out to suck so bad when Billy's girlfriend knocks on my door last night around 10:00 p.m. with her mom in tow to tell me the news. I cannot believe that with all her anguish she came and made notification to me directly about this. SO YOUNG TO DIE!!!!!

Billy was a really nice guy and a hard worker by what I knew of him. He has 5 young children running around and every day (except today) they are out in the yard yelling "Hey Curt!". I am going to try and find a way to help them. Billy was the bread winner in the house. Gail and I will go over later on and see what we can do.

WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - One person is dead following a multi-car accident that shut down a Lexington County highway for hours Monday afternoon.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the three-car accident left the intersection of Pinecrest Avenue and Highway 1 near Interstate 26 blocked from 2:00pm to 6:30pm.

Billy Joe Thomas, 23, of Gaston, was driving a Ford F-150 on the 2800 block of Augusta Highway, when Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman said he hit another car, spun out of control and was hit by a crane truck carrying sheetrock.

Thomas was taken to Lexington Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Other drivers and passengers were taken to area hospitals, but their names and conditions have not been released.

The road was back open by 6:30pm Monday. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine Thomas' cause of death.

They are armed to the teeth and lack serious Adult Supervision. They collectively remember the Commander's intent as ' march to the sound of the guns and kill anyone not dressed like you.' "

UPDATE: It does not appear that it was Billy's fault.

2 fatal collision survivors remain critical
    By CLIF LEBLANC - cleblanc@thestate.com

The man who died in a three-car accident Monday near West Columbia has been identified as Billy Joe Thomas, 23, of Gaston, authorities said. Two of his passengers remain in critical condition today.
Thomas died at 1:50 p.m. in Lexington Medical Center about and hour after the 12:35 p.m. wreck at Augusta Road and Pinecrest Avenue near West Columbia, Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman said today. The results of an autopsy were to be released later in the day.
The state Highway Patrol is investigating through its accident reconstruction team, which means the findings might take weeks.
But an initial report from trooper Billy Elder and the coroner’s office found that the 2004 silver Ford F-150 Thomas was driving struck a 1999 Chevrolet pickup driven by James Liberty, 37, of West Columbia. Liberty was pulling from a driveway on the property of a Lowe’s home-repair store.
The impact forced Ford’s truck into an oncoming lane where it hit a 2007 10-wheel flatbed truck driven by Jerome Cole, 44, of Columbia, Elder said.
No one in the Ford was wearing seat belts, the patrol said. Thomas was trapped, as was passenger Travis Berry, 23. Another passenger, Kendall Shisler, 19, was thrown from the pickup, Elder said. Berry and Shisler have the same address, an apartment in the town of Lexington.
The crash occurred during the lunch rush hour in a busy commercial area between West Columbia and Sprindale. It knotted traffic for several blocks near the Lowe’s store.
    Reach LeBlanc at (803) 771-8664.
