LRS, you are quite correct, Guymullins and I (mainly Guymullins) are still in contact with the founder and I have some friends here in Durban who served in the battalion. Check my face book, look under friends and you will see Barry Roper, also Manie Grove who published several books on battalion, our Recce's and Paratroopers. he and Barry are a mine of first-hand information if you are interested in more than just the surface of the African conflicts and weaponry.

Incidentally, all the officers and most of the NCOs were Paratroopers. The troops were turned terrorists and members of the opposing Angolan factions fighting the communists.Many of the troops had been in constant combat for nearly 20 years. You can imagine the wealth of experience that brings.
In the picture are Frank Besbier, was my Coy Commander at 1 Para, Col Jan Breytenbach, South Africas most decorated soldier and founder of 32 Bn, 44 Para Brigade and the Reconnaissance Commandos, South Africas Special Forces and then Robbie Ribiero of 32 Bn.

I read 32 Bn awhile back, excellent read. Also worked with 2 fellas from 32 Bn in Iraq. One fella who was sharp as hell running convoy out of Fallujha and on the Iraqi MOI detail with Craig Gom, who I believe was in 32 Bn for awhile. Very, very professional fellas.

I've read a little, I have the utmost respect for all of you SADF guys. I've read through some of the Ranger Hall of Fame bio's and there was one CSM from Ranger Batt that had served with 3 Commando? Correct me if I'm wrong please, as I don't want to tarnish anyone. If I remember right he had 3 combat jumps while with them. Amazing stuff to read about.

I think you are thinking of CSM Kelso, he was in the Rhodesian Light Infantry.

I do know one gent who after a few years in the Rhodesian SAS and the SADF Recce's went on to retire out of 7th SFG (A). But as he is still working in the sandbox I will not say his name.
