    Default Custom Paratrooper AR-15 Lower

I am currently investigating the viability of having a custom Paratrooper themed AR-15 lower receiver made available. This would involve having custom engraving on the outside of the magazine well. Before I discuss design, I first need to find out how many people would be interested in purchasing a custom lower receiver. At this point the estimated cost would be approximately $249 for a complete lower. This may change as we get further into production discussions (up or down).

    Who's making the lower?
Let me check, friend did this and stripped lowers ran about $110, so stripped lowers may be a better deal.

    Nothing confirmed yet.

Stripped lowers will generally be a better "deal", however, that will require further assembly to make operational. I'm looking into complete lowers since not everybody has the desire/know how to assemble a lower. The cost difference isn't huge.

I'll be one of the guys who says "hell yeah, that's an awesome idea!" and then doesn't buy one.

I may be broke, but I can still afford to be honest.

That said -- I'm ignernt, so don't laugh... (all right, go ahead and laugh, ya fuckin' assholes -- make fun of an old guy..."

What's approximate cost to assemble a complete weapon given a lower? I know there's a lot of options, but I'm talking just a decent M4-styled shooter, not a werewolf hunting, night-scoped, three-point slinged, railed-out zombie raider with a 12v cigarette lighter plug that requires a second mortgage to sit in my closet. Cause I see fairly decent ads on things like 5.56 SIGs and S&Ws at Cabelas, and figure you can probably beat those if you work at it.

Building your own is not cheap but you get what you want, you can buy low price AR by many manufactures but you don't get the better options that way.
Here is a place to start and remember that these are only just a guide.

Just ask yourself do I want a good Truck or a prius.

    Barrel $150.00 and up
    Upper 80 and up
    Flash Suppressor 30 and up
Bolt and carrier 125 and up
    Charging handle 30 and up
Free float rail 60 and up
    Trigger 150 and up
    stock 50 and up
Buffer, tube and spring 60 and up
    grip 20 and up
Springs, detent pins and roll pins 30-50
forward assist components 30 and up
Small parts, bolt catch, selector, mag button and release parts, take down pins, trigger guard, ejection port cover etc 50 and up

I'm sure there are a few items I missed but this should cover most for a DI gun. Piston will be more.

    AIRBORNE!

PS: You also need the proper tools to build one.

Thanks for that! Although I was a Platoon Armorer (82nd Armorer's Course in '71, that was a blast), I haven't kept up the skills, and with a relatively huge investment in photo and video gear, I need another expensive hobby like a 3rd nostril. Much as I'd like a personalized firearm, I'd probably go with a complete OTC solution, and for site-affiliated customization, put one of Fred's APO bumper stickers on the stock.

I'm getting dialed in on a manufacturer so to get a good quote I need to get a design to them. What ideas do you have? My initial ideas are:

    • Novice Jump wings with "Got Silk?" engraved on the magazine well.
    • Novice Jump wings with "Nex Superne" (Death from Above in Latin) engraved on the magazine well.
    • Novice Jump wings alone engraved on the magazine well.
    • Airborne Tab above Novice Jump Wings engraved on the magazine well.
    • Maroon color fill on safe/fire markings, Serial number, etc.
    • APO flash/crest engraved on left side of magazine well.
