Default Questions on Changing Mos and more

In December i went to meps and signed a contract for 11x i have been thinking really hard about it and i really want to do more with my brain and have some skills for when i get out. I was wondering if it is possible to change to 35N. My ship date is March 07. I really am interested in Special Forces or Rangers. Is it possible to go 35N and be a Ranger or be in special forces? I really like to use my brain but i also really want a phsyical challenge and want to be out there doing something not just pushing papers or sitting behind a desk all day. Also when i signed up for infantry they said i couldnt get a sure spot in airborne school and that i would have to wait untill i get to AIT to even get a choice to get into it. Is this true? Please post some info im kinda lost on all this and running out of time :(

Hey Rich, how about hustling on over to the Intro thread and make a proper intro. Yoou'll find out you might get a faster answer.
    From the site's SOPs -
    Making your initial post:

You need to show common courtesy to those already in the community and introduce yourself to the rest of us. Your first post should go in the appropriate Introduction forum. There are 3 separate introduction forums to for our different members - one for Paratroopers, one for non Paratroopers, and one for civilians. Ensure you post your introduction in the proper one. Below is simply a vague template to follow. Your introduction should be similar in format to this but should be your own:

"Hi, I'm [insert first name ONLY] and I am a high speed Paratrooper and stumbled upon this place. I served from [insert dates here] with the [insert units here]. I [was/was not] on jump status."

If you are a civilian, just let us know your interest in our site in your intro. If you have signed a contract and are in the delayed entry program (DEP), include that information, your contract information, your current PT scores, and your pertinent dates in your intro. Additionally, be prepared to enter your dates on our calendar so we may track your progress.
    Found in the "Rules" section.

Sorry about that, Hi My Names Richard, im currently a DEP. Im very interesting in Airborne school but when i had decided to join the military i did it rather quickly, i went to the recruiter and just kind of pulled infrantry out of a hat. I decided i should try something more intellectually challenging, (no offense to infantrymen) i would like to go 35N but still want some action. I dont want to be stuck behind a desk and pushing papers alll day. I was wondering if its possible to go SF and if so is it alot harder as MI? i need a physical challenge but also a mental one. I would like to have some technical skills for when or if i decide to leave the military

Your first "intellectucal challenge" could be to actually read VB's instructions.

FYI - Infantrymen are trained in a wide variety of areas from mechanics to first aid not to mention closing with and destroying the enemy, as opposed to having a single job like many other MOS's. You want to go to Ranger School, keep your 11x, max every APFT on Sand Hill and don't be a shitbag. They'll send you to RASP. Good luck with your enlistment.

I'd listen to the man, he hasn't long been out of OSUT. Attention to detail trooper, regardless of MOS will take you a long way.

I see. Wanna try something "intellectually challenging" hero? Try hunting humans who are hunting you! You'll never find a more demanding job than that.

Yeah quite a lot of offense taken wannabe. How do you know what is and isn't intellectually challenging having not been there? Ohhh that's right you don't know because you aren't shit yet. Seems like with your ability to read and follow directions, you'd be a perfect fit for the experimental parachute test dummy. Work on that brain mouth filter thing and you'll be better off.

If indeed you are in dep (delayed enlistment program) and have NOT TAKEN THE ENLISTMENT OATH (which you should NEVER DO before the last 2 weeks of ACTAULLY LEAVING) your contract used to be able to be CHANGED because your not actually enlisted yet... Or a least that is how it was when I was in DEP....

Let me give you some advice Richard. You should have posted your introduction in the proper place. This goes to attention to detail. The reason that the guys are being hard on you serves multiple purposes. If you cannot follow instructions (post your intro in the right place) you might want to reconsider the military. Taking and following orders are fundamental to the job. PERIOD. You also caused offense with your comment about 11 series not being intellectually challenging. I certainly don't expect you to understand, having never been there, but you need to consider your audience. In the military there is no time for careful reasoned words to ensure that you feel good about the mission. Sometimes your leaders need you to do something right the f**k now with no time for careful explanation. You don't have to like it, you don't have to feel good about it, you just have to DO IT.
