McCarthy Bill Would Ban Common Self-Defense Magazines

On Tuesday, Jan. 18, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) introduced H.R. 308, the "Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act." The bill would ban the manufacture and importation of new magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. Unlike the magazine ban that was in effect from 1994 to 2004, her new bill would also make it illegal for the tens of millions of Americans who already own these magazines to sell or otherwise transfer them, even through inheritance.
In a letter to her colleagues, Rep. McCarthy claimed, "The only reason for the existence of these devices is to be able to shoot as many people as quickly as possible." Yet her bill would allow the continued acquisition and possession of these magazines by law enforcement officers, who carry firearms to defend themselves and the public. It would even allow these magazines to be transferred to law enforcement officers upon retirement, even though a retired officer's right to use firearms for self-defense is the same as any other private citizen's right.
IF YOUR FREEDOMS MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU, THEN UNLEASH FULL POWER TO DEFEND THEM NOW!!!

More knee-jerk legislation that has not been thought out in the least. Par for the course. So what she is saying is that 10 people is an acceptable loss, but 15 offends our sensibilities.

Perhaps there should be a bill passed banning all politicians. That way we would not have to worry about any of them being shot with a weapon that has a high capacity magazine.

Lol, as an attorney, I am only one rung from the bottom on the list of respected professions. Why would I want to go ahead and take the last step downward?

Solution. Just have a lot of 10 rd mags. You can always tape them together, top to bottom, like the GI's did the Carbine 30 rd mags. Doesn't take more than a few seconds to eject empty mag, turn it upside down and inject the loaded mag.

Whoa there. That will only lead to a ban on duct tape, and I need that for household use on occasion.

All of my magazines are "normal" capacity. Even the 30-round mags only hold 30 rounds.

I've got a hefty supply left over from my service days...I'll be on the news someday when this takes effect.

About a month ago, I was going through one of my duffel bags and found 4 fully loaded 30 round magazines. Two of them are full of tracers. I wonder if they would even fire at this point, being 25 years old.

    Dear Bitchenstein:

As soon as I heard about your bill I went and ordered two 33 round capacity magazines for my Avatar. Theyhave since arrived. I now have 19 pistol magazines that hold more than 10.

Now please GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY STATE! If I wanted you as a Rep to congress I would have stayed in NY.

I looked my old address up. She really Would be my Rep had I stayed on Long Island.

All kidding aside, I know for a fact that the first round fired was the one that went into Congresswoman Gifford's forehead. I believe Judge Roll was hit by the next bullets, and I imagine the aids were the next ones shot, since they were the closest. How would a 10 round magazine have saved any of those people? Answer: It would not. So he has to reload earlier. He was able to reload after firing 30 rounds. By accounts, one magazine that he was attempting to load into the Glock was knocked away, and the second one he loaded into the weapon jammed. Again, how would having only 10 rounds per magazine have helped any of those who were killed or injured that day? This legislation is ridiculous because it does not address the situation. To say that it follows from banning large magazines that fewer people will be killed/injured by maniacs is asinine. They will just carry multiple firearms when they go out to commit mayhem, like the majority of mass killers have done since Columbine.

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't launch.

Like BG said, I don't see the reason why not, unless there are obvious signs of troubles on the outside (corrosion, deterioration, etc).
As much as Russian surplus ammo is critisized for its dirty powder and corrosive primers, I keep shooting the stuff with production date going back to 1975, and it's superior in performance.
    (AK-74' 5.45 ammo started in '73 or '74).
My buddy is shooting his Mosin trouble-free with 7.62x54 ammo made in 50's.
As you know, it's all about storage.
You don't have to "can spam" in oiled paper and cosmoline, but sealable container with moisture-absorbing pack would help.
